The legendary bird of ice, Articuno. Axel was originally tracking down Zapdos but he noticed an Articuno along the way. Taking into account that Articuno appears before lost travelers, he stakes out in the icy mountains of Sinnoh before the bird presents itself. Catching it was a matter of getting friendly with it (the very light-blue patch of fur on its chest is a particular weak spot) and coaxing it into an ultra ball without much hassle.

On his trip to Galar, Alex caught a shiny Vikavolt some time after Wugtrio. He was not planning on it, but caught it simply because it was a shiny and it is now a semi-active member of his roster because it is a relatively strong Pokemon and has few weaknesses.

I might give Alex an alternate electric + two other undetermined types team where Vikavolt is essentially Plan B if Zapdos faints somehow.

Emily has on more than one occasion made it a point to break up any sort of "problematic behavior" she finds out in the wild between Pokemon and has had Mawlie on more than one occasion utterly stomp the instigating Wild Pokemon and in turn earned the thanks of many Pokemon that were victims at the time. But in one particular instance a rather large, dominant Skarmory out in a desert had made a certain Tinkatink it's main target as it would regularly swoop in and eat the metal off of a hammer the Tinkatink had been working on as to both keep it from being a threat and also to get easy meals with minimal hassle as it has also done the same to other local Tinkatink. Emily came across one such moment in which it terrorized a Tinkatink and she promptly had Mawlie battle with the otherwise somewhat giant, alpha Skarmory.

Needless to say it was a short encounter as Mawlie used a more ranged application of Thunder Punch to strike the Skarmory out of the air with an intense, feather searing lightning bolt only to then run over and bring down a Dynamic Punch upon it's back and crack the Skarmory's armor while also severely denting it inward while leaving the now injured Skarmory in the crater that followed the Dynamic Punch. Emily and Mawlie began to leave without a word but the Tinkatink began to take a shine to Emily and especially Mawlie since Mawlie is rather similar to the Tinkatink line of Pokemon, causing the younger Pokemon to see Mawlie like something of a long lost older sister and refused to leave them alone. Emily eventually relented and gently tossed one of her spare Luxury Balls onto the Tinkatink and caught it with zero hassle and has been training her since then. She's a Tinkaton now.

Alex doesn't care. He'd probably stay silent or potentially quietly encourage the trainer to "whip it up into shape" because it would make their Pokemon weaker.

The anime depicts abusive trainers (genuinley abusive like the kid with the Tepig, not people like Paul that just autistically fixate on "strength") as being weak so I wonder if it's possible to be a genuinley good trainer while being abusive. I guess Ghetsis and Lysandre might be examples but I'm referring to normal trainers, not villains.

Funnily enough, Vega was originally meant to be male because I wanted a half and half split in gender between the clan heads. But I didn't really like how he looked and I had another character with big ol fluffy red hair in my mind so I was like "fuck it".
Also it's okay Axel, technically this time you got isekai'd in front of Lan. Although honestly I just wrote it with the idea that he was talking to his Master's daughter. Next time though it's probably gonna be another hot girl lmao

I think you can abuse a pokemon and it can eventually become strong and aggresive, but I think you'd be inherently dysfunctional as a trainer since I don't think the benefits of that outweigh just taking care of them properly. Even more so the further you go along since I can see the abuser stomping scrubs early on but then losing to people who actually know what they're doing.

True, and I think it would be funny for him to be jealous of Alex's looks, but I also wanted it to symbolize change. He isn't just a dumb bully anymore, as his younger appearance (basically Sophocles but taller and thrice as ugly) would suggest. His weight loss transformation signifies that he has festered into a true villain that's cold, ruthless, and calculating. Also, him being ugly kind of gives away that there is a clear good and bad guy, which I don't exactly want to be the case. Both him and Alex are literal socio/psychopaths, it just manifests in different ways. I also just don't like ugly characters in general.

more or less exactly as you'd expect for bibi. her anger's the quiet kind where all the words fizzle out and die in the back of your throat so its right to interfering with the problem herself.

after all, pokemon are meant to be friends you cherish, being cold or neglectful is one thing but abuse immediately sends her flying off the rails.

immediately goes for the nonverbal signals to get her pokemon to stop the opposing party's antics (think that scene in FMAB where mustangs just continuously snapping and burning envy to a crisp but without the growling and screaming), then takes measures into her own hands when they're disarmed.

how well that second part goes depends on how old she is, present bibi picks fistfights she can't win, but once she's a little older she can make good on all her threats.

alto's not the strongest trainer around, and frankly prefers to quell such violent acts with the power of song. which sure as hell doesn't work, so when all else fails he reveals that he's already shared the whole thing online so even if *he* can't do anything about it, the authorities/other trainers know who to look out for.

tes would most likely just whistle in surprise because it's not the kind of behavior you see every day. he doesn't have a moral problem with it, but he's a man who treasures his belongings, so he doesn't get why others would damage their own property like that. not above trying to buy/steal the abused pokemon if it's sufficiently rare/powerful. he'll take better care of it anyways.

Not for the reasons you think. I'm not voreschizo. No, is because I hated playing Platinum. I said "well, everybody here sucks their balls so hard, and the porn is great, so this must be the peak, right?". No, it was the same as the first time I played Crystal: all my expectations were turned down, and the trip became a grinding wash. The road to Victory Road was a slow pain, and even though I had good mons, many didn't felt powerful. This didn't helped when I discovered Spiritomb was Ghost/Dark, and I remember his typing didn't have a real counter until Gen 6.
So, yeah. Cynthia hates me because I called her over the phone, telling her she is an overpraised grandma who's the Mary Sue of Pokémon, even bigger than Red and Ash combined together. And the only reason she was hot shit was because she was the only (legal) fuckable thing, so horny teens with a mommy complex made her more valuable than she really is: a trubbish.

I would have to think of a full story to have a clear answer to that, as I just have a bunch of key points, and that's a little too mundane.
But in general, Ayumu and Wild Pokémon are pretty neutral towards each other. When eating, he'll share his food if wild Pokémon gather wanting some; if just curious, he'll let them "investigate" and make their own judgement; if one shows up with unprovoked hostility, he'll try to approach and find out why it's behaving like that and try to solve the problem, but if being hostile is just that particular Pokémon's nature, one of his Pokémon will beat them away (usually Hime).
Bonus: If he goes somewhere where there's wild Pumpkaboos, they'll gather around him and follow him around for the entirety of his stay.
Now regarding catching, he doesn't do that, so much so that he doesn't carry any PokeBalls. When meeting a Pokémon, if it decides to follow him, it's only at that point that he'll go with that Pokémon to the nearest town an buy a PokeBall for it to go in.

Weavile's the only Dark type in his team and Chandelure is the only Fire type in his team so adding Overqwil knocks out two birds with one stone, and Aegislash helps cover Chandelure's Ghost niche and has more immunities than Klinklang. Don't know if I will commit to the change because I really like the designs of Klinklang and Chandelure but here's an alternate version of his team with those changes added.

Can't say about the collective consciousness, but personally, that's a "yes" from me. Despite how much I love Pokémon, I don't particularly like animals (don't know if there's actually a correlation), but even in my edgy teenage years, I always drew the line at animal cruelty, so that translates to Pokémon. Thus, if Ayumu can't get the abuser arrested for it, the alternative is to traumatize them until the very thought of doing it again would cause at least some heart palpitations.

I do. Though in some cases it's deemed legal purely because some Pokemon by instinct only listen to violence. Like the pre-evolutions of Hydreigon. In my mind they only obey strength, the kind of strength that can MAKE them stay down and submit. And inevitably it's more like abuse than anything else. Taming Deino and Zweilous is only really possible with physical force but it requires less beating on them if you can overpower them by hand rather than having your other Pokemon do it. It sends a stronger message of dominance.

Inevitably when they become a Hydreigon they will try using that new overwhelming power to rebel again but at that point if your other Pokemon can enforce the rules on it with the same brutal force, the Hydreigon in question generally understands it is not the alpha in the situation and as long as you remain firm with it, it will generally listen to you.

Otherwise yeah, to me Pokemon abuse is illegal. It's like animal abuse. And Emily being the unhinged girl that she is has a very strong bias for giving abusers their just desserts.

Ehh....let's leave that to the people who choose to have anything to do with each other. I'd rather avoid another Zirca or anything that can act as a vehicle for a circlejerk like a thread-wide setting that some people might just ignore the presence of certain people in and act like they don't exist within that sphere at all and have it come off like some kind of alienation/exclusion.

The last Pokémon Koa caught was a gift from a student who studied where Lance did. He brought Koa a Larvitar from Kanto, having found it from a Team Rocket remnant base that was breeding Pokémon unnaturally for combat purposes. When Sandy was born, his temperament was feisty. Rebel, the Gabite, took him as a little brother of sorts. They’re at odds at times, and Rebel’s even become more mellow as a result.

I already have my own vision for how it’s going to play out but it’s probably not going to go the way I want it to In fact, I daydreamed an idea for a storyline involving most characters here, I think it’s balanced but I won’t say it so as to not potentially ruffle any feathers regardless). Which is fine, but imagine if that was the case for ten people instead of three. At least one person wouldn’t be happy with the way things are going and that would lead to conflict. It would basically be DND but everyone is simultaneously a character and DM, It’s not truly impossible that it wouldn’t work, but it’s so unlikely that it may as well be.

That Ghost form Mawile I posted a few threads ago (and again now), is technically a Battle Bond as far as I'm concerned. Ayumu has a clear affinity with Ghost Type Pokémon, and through her bond with him, she attained that type.

(honestly, I was even going to give a "Battle Bond" special snowflake form for Yuki as well, one that, ironically, would turn her into an Ice/Dragon type. Froslass, are inspired by Yuki-Onnas, but her other form would be inspired by Kankandara. Unfortunately, laziness didn't allow me to go on with it.)

It might not be the exact same scenario as it was last time but a Discord server opens up all sorts of questions and concerns.
Discord is an entirely different beast from /tog/, over here everyone is always on topic because there’s only a single place to have conversations, but in a server you have a ton of channels and people will be opening up about all sorts of things, inevitably that’s going to cause drama especially if things get political. The same would happen even if we only have a few channels.
Who’s going to run the server? Who’s going to keep the administration in check? As long as someone is above someone else then someone is going to be unhappy. That’s not even mentioning infiltrators and shit stirrers. Either the entire server dies off and so does /tog/ or the server splinters into other servers and everyone hates each other and /tog/ dies anyway. It’s simply too much.

There is literally nothing wrong with that. I see the bulk of /tog/ activity as a creative writing environment to help encourage people to use a familiar setting as a backdrop to improve their writing or drawing skills. As opposed to the fanfic thread, which is exclusively for writing and mostly for sharing already-completed works.
Ideally, people who enter this thread should be looking at all the short stories and artwork (digital and otherwise) being archived and ask themselves "what's stopping me from doing the same?"
If people are continuing to pick up a pen or pencil or upload their writing in order to contribute to the thread, then /tog/ is continuing to fulfill its purpose.

I have this idea where in Koa and Hemlock’s final battle, Hemlock would try to get his henchmen to interrupt Koa halfway through the Z-Move’s choreography, while Hapu and the Kahunas fight them back to make sure he gets off the Clangorous Soulblaze. It’d be kinda cool.

As per adding people on something, meh, it seems kinda complicated. If I post something, people would be mad. I probably shouldn’t, even if I would not make any servers, I’d just be happy to talk to people more. Pastebins and replying to them, as well as writing and drawing my own stuff, are probably fine as they are.

Unrelated, but I had an idea for an AU where instead of going after Team Plasma, Alex just calls it quits on becoming a stronger trainer and instead becomes Not James Bond at Pokestar Studios, with his dad's Inteleon as his sidekick. Or, alternatively, this is a filler arc that happens after his main story and before a tournament arc.

Yeah, it's much more freeform in that we also encourage people to draw if they can't write and gen if they can't draw just to get their dreams out there. For the most part, it's about celebrating the little things that help flesh out the setting we're all interested in, bumping ideas off of each other to see what works and what doesn't, and just enjoying the company of having a circle of creatives to check in on while doing your own thing.

Less of a dedicated fanfic general and more of a self-improvement general focused through the lens of on-topic OCs. We have literally one rule, and that's to leave your fetish-posting at the door.

Nothing ever really comes to mind unprompted. Or it's one of those plot related things for her storyline going forward that I am trying to avoid giving spoilers to since I don't really do SOLO fic writing and don't have any story RP people to share it with in a more organic, gradual way by actually in a sense telling them the story but letting them also interact with it too. So not much noise from me in here at this point.

Do you think you need to re-earn your qualifications for the league every year (by anime rules) or do they just allow you to come back every year as long as you got eight badges in the region?

I'm trying to get started and I'm thinking over a broad concept of someone who does enjoy battling and is attempting to beat gyms and attend a league, but they're not going super hard into it. Slow and steady approach to being a trainer. I like the idea of my guy hanging out for a while in each city with a Gym Leader possibly losing once or twice, doing some training with his team, spectating other challenges coming through, and prepping counter strats for a later attempt. They would eventually win out through exploiting weaknesses and plans made ahead of time rather than pure superiority, but this would still obviously be slower than someone like Ash who is standing out in the rain training with his partner keeping warm off hotblooded determination to succeed in their salty runback like one or two days later.

If anyone's more scatterbrained than Bibi, it's Briar. B's not about to chance catastrophe happening so she promises to capture footage of it for Briar instead.

One 15 minute elevator ride and some wandering later and she hears the Garchomp speeding towards her before she sees it.

Her and Koraidon’s well honed reflexes have them lean back to avoid around a foot of a scythelike armblade. Scrambling off her mount she orders her partner to get into fighting stance. The trademark glow of a stellar terastallization makes it clear she has to beat the Garchomp if she wants to advance.

And powerful as it may be, a wild Pokemon stands little chance. Though, Bibi feels kind of bad about more or less breaking into its home and beating it up. She opts to leave some berries and ingredients from her bag laid out for it in apology.

Alto finds himself in the mood to play bass that day, and does so out in some fuckoff area of the wilderness after having dealt with one too many noise complaints.

What he doesn't expect is to encounter another Toxtricity, a little different from his partner, with an electric mohawk blazing neon yellow.

It regards him with curiosity at first, before its aura begins to read more...Competitive?

It starts thrumming the pads on its chest, creating the unmistakable sound of an electric guitar. Alto responds to the challenge, the rhythms shifting and turning more intense as if beckoning the Toxtricity to keep up.

All the admiration in the pokemon's eyes vanished the moment Alto begins to "sing" though. Shift gear sure is something, he'd never seen a Toxtricity run that fast before.

This thing's pretty good. Better than another free generator I once messed around with. I like this strange double-collar look that it threw on a few attempts.

Unsure on name so far, but I'll probably attempt the Gym Leader route of something really on the nose. Traditionally I like being a ghost specialist in games so it would be along "Toby Ware" or "Jack Lantern" or something along those lines. Probably could make a decision after figuring out hometown and basing it on the location some. Right now I'm thinking Laverre City in Kalos. I like the scenery, but also my favorite Pokemon are Chandelure and Scolipede and it feels like Route 14 is an appropriate environment to catch them when my guy was just starting out their Journey. Unsure on what the full team comp would be like, but I believe Chandelure, Scolipede, Sableye, and Frosslass would be in. Those other two have been good to me in different romhacks.

Yeah, just hanging out with teammates or maybe friends, really savoring the local sights or attractions, that sort of stuff. It's like having priorities other than just the grind.

No I wasn't saying anything to the effect of this being a definite thing, just saying anime rules since like, how do I explain? In the anime it's less you working your way up the ladder to face greater trainers on the way to the champion, and more you going through qualifiers to attend and annual tournament that loads of people partake in. It felt like the anime thing might be something you have to re-earn qualifications for but I was asking for a second opinion in case someone had one.

Yeah mostly lower body weight training though, her upper body combat training is handled by actually doing combat training and such. Sparring with Mawlie and her Golisopod mostly since most of the rest of her team can't really fist fight.

Alex just loves it when "le power of friendship" gets stomped into the ground, especially when it's an ostentatiously bubbly character like Bibi. Alex worked under Colress during BW1. At his personal request, Colress conducted an experiment, and concluded that emotional bonding with your Pokemon has no significant effect on their performance in battle. in all honesty, b's one and only genuine skill is battling, fortunately for her it's literally the most useful skill to have in this universe.

(not to go on a tangent but i do love thinking of her as pathetic in a lot of respects, like for all her cheer and desire to make friends she's just so lacking in emotional intelligence that almost all of her *human* friends are connections she made through being a strong trainer, otherwise why would anyone spare her a 2nd glance)

but the attitude does would win no favor from guys like alex.

well....anyways i say tes would never win but it's not like i've even fully finalized his backstory/character details, much less tried to develop an arc or concrete storyline. he could totally win at least one of their few fights if only by the skin of his teeth since he's going to get his hands on multiple legendaries.

Might come off as a bit ego-y. But probably "The Trascendent" considering how driven towards progress and improvement through power she is and the fact she is rather inhuman due to her receptiveness towards and ability to generate and utilize Infinity Energy-- especially in higher quantities than most "special" individuals like true Psychics and prodigious fighting trainers who can outright tussle with their Fighting Pokemon on even ground or like how Maylene can walk up to Snowpoint City barefoot without an issue. In some cases she has a reputation back in Unova as either a "Battle Angel" or a "Star Child" which lend to the more transcendence theming.

Cause I like a story about a character that eventually sorta falls upward into higher order concepts and unearthly walks of life as things that would be surreal become the norm for her but she also becomes somewhat unaccustomed to just mundane life despite trying to still cling to her earthly, human origins as to never forget where and what she came from and avoid the usual "god complexes" that come with people who end up going down a route like the one she has.

1.Jynx's "dress" seems to be part of its body. It can feel when I touch it even lightly. Because of that I have decided against cutting or hemming it to be more stylish.
2.Jynx does not have legs or feet. Underneath her skirt is just a black void. Despite this she gets really embarrassed when you lift her skirt.
-Addendum. There's times I can hear footsteps when she walks. Further research is needed.
3.Jynx will kiss objects that it claims as its own. I believe this is a way of marking territory. If you're very close with your Jynx don't be surprised if you find yourself with a kiss Mark.
-Addendum. Don't wipe it off in front of her. It seems to take that as a rejection.
4.Jynx are like chatot in that they can repeat words they hear. It's often hard to tell if they understand what they mean though.
5. I've heard from some older trainers that there was a rare group of dark Jynx in the Kanto ice caves years ago. Some believe the unique environment made them appear like that. Its believed a Jynx's skin changes to adapt to the colder temperatures. Jynx bred in captivity don't share that trait however.
6. Jynx love to sing and dance. Be careful though. Wild Jynx are known to perform strange rituals.
7. Jynx will rub all sorts of different things on its lips to get them that glossy sheen. Be careful what fluids you leave around her!

9. Despite being ice type their skin is warm to the touch. That said she'll feel week in heavy sunlight.

Personally, I imagine Rouka would be one of very few people Emily would have interacted with on more than one occasion but that's solely because Mari being a more eccentric, fellow Kanto girl like Rouka. Mari would most likely be the direct friend of Rouka while Emily's a bit of a wallflower when the interactions happen up until Mari drags her gremlin "sister" into getting dolled up and having all sorts of hairstyles experimented on her BECAUSE of all that hair she has. And cause of that one picture the Rouka anon drew that would have most likely only happened in a realistic context cause of Mari dragging Emily into it. I normally don't think much of random pictures like these but I realistically could see Emily being the personal hairstyle experiment doll cause of Mari being Emily's kryptonite and all the concessions Emily makes and allowing such goofy things to happen being because of Mari.

I'm less worried about "who asked" since other comments re-affirmed about it but there's still my own fundamental issue of having no clue what to be divulging and trying to avoid handing out spoilers I'd want potential writing partners to find out gradually through a proper story though of course this probably won't ever happen, most people aren't about that story RP stuff that I enjoy cause it feels like a more streamlined, collaborative and interactional fic/book and is more fun to actually write out a story that way to me. On the total opposite end, Phos would be a terrible influence on the Naranja students and love every second of it. The extreme opposite "big sister" energy, teaching Bibi how to flirt with guys and do parkour (and how to stick the landing without hurting herself) or making up atrociously filthy jokes just to watch Alto's cool guy facade melt. If the kids were trouble before, she would teach them how to be absolute menaces to society.
She'd also be super supportive of Alto's singing. Not necessarily because she thinks he's any good (she doesn't, but her Malamar does), but because he sings with his feelings and damn if an old rebel-hipster like Phos doesn't sympathize with the need to just get a good scream out now and again. Being a teen is rough, if Alto needs to screech his feelings out, who is she to tell him no?

Emily is the physically smallest, but protective big sister of her own trio. I dunno how well she'd handle someone else trying to be a big sister to HER. Especially when her idea of a big sister and that of normal people are probably vastly different and would be met with many instances of varying "What are you doing?". Especially when she prefers being in said position and doing the one fighting, protecting and other stuff. Someone else trying to put her in a position to be defended from something or as a little sister at all would massively put her out of her element.

I wouldn't say Emily is edgy. Just very wallflower-y, clearly rather autistic in a more high functioning way in specific fields and just kinda putting on a guise of ice and steel with a perpetual deadpan and/or resting grump face. More of an ice queen than an edgelord from feedback I've gotten in the past. And that differentiation tends to be helped by the fact pointed out above. Emily does not use violence or force on civilian types. She doesn't quickly lash out with violence just cause someone might be flustering or bothering her. She tries to hold a firm divide between her behavior in more civil environments and when on the battlefield and abstains from using any real physical force on normal people unless they make it a point to outright try picking a fight with her. Mari being there however means Emily ends up staying instead of just taking the flight option and walking away cause she in a sense wants to keep Mari happy by humoring her.

For her part, I feel like while in public she's more cunning and guarded but when she's with friends she's very relaxed. I think it'd be a nice dynamic! Honestly I've had in it my mind that Vega was like the wrangler when she spent time together with Lan/Eltia/Anka/theothertwoihaventpostedartfor so honestly I think if anyone's equipped for the gremlin's odd tendencies, it's Vega. She's not the strongest among her friends but she's very good at meeting people where they're at. Like if she's arguing with someone who's a warrior at heart like Lan for example then she'll talk like a warrior first. Practical ideas, tactical decisions, keeping morale, stuff like that. But eventually she'll hone in the stuff that really matters to him deep down: how to help the people he cares about. Of course she'd respect his emotional space and let him breathe but just getting that biiiit closer and broadening his prospective on *how* he goes about it would go a long way. I think something similar would work well with Emily.

It would probably depend on context but regardless she's just not keen on the idea of being outside of her usual spot and being treated like a little sister. Not to mention ways of speaking to another warrior type might not go as well with Emily due to her own unique nature as a battle-hardened type on top of her tendency to at least TRY and seperate her combat/"warrior" mindset and leave at the door of normal civil situations. Even if it means it seems like she is somewhat listless and lost in the situation since social situations and day to day mundane life moments are not particularly her forte. Feels a bit hard to convey in a concise manner and outside of something like actually writing a character interaction scene with someone which in itself has a bunch of hitches attached to it like actually organically working up to such a situation instead of just hopping right into one.

Another fun dynamic for Orchis that got brought up before was Ayumu. In this case it's more like a "bro that knows you're hiding something but will only hint at it to tease you". I like the idea.

For the Furians that aren't Vega, I think it'd be fun to see Eltia interact with Bibi, Rouka and Emily. Eltia is a very genuine and cheery person that also just happens to be absurdly physically strong. Because of Teach she also does have her own brand of martial arts, and I'm sure she'd want to learn and share about the girl's specialties. Ironically I'm sure they'd have a good amount to teach her about traditional 1v1 Pokémon battles since she's always the one fighting instead of supporting.
Also she'd have a very "embarrassing mom" relationship with Orchis. "When am I getting grandkids? Hahaha!" type deal.
Lan would probably get along well with Koa, actually. He has a soft spot for kids with a lot on their shoulders. Although he'd probably be a bit cold on the surface like his Master was with him, he'd care a lot about helping the boy develop on his own terms.
I also still think it'd be nice to have Hasumi or Grym meet with Lan, Eltia or Teach. Bond over being ghost type trainers and sharing techniques.

On a related note I have decided to go out of my way to nerf any OC of mine with dragon blood in extremely petty ways. At first Orchis and Eltia couldn't cook, but now I've decided that they are also naturally bad at singing. Orchis just wouldn't but Eltia absolutely turns up at karoake. Lan and Teach have had their ghost Pokémon learn the equivalent of Silence specifically to deal with this threat.

With a 'biting his way to the top' mentality, he's not opposed to teaming up for a short while (even if it means someone getting hurt in the process) then going his own way.
It does nag at Silas when he ropes sincere trainers into something. He had yearned to be a League official trainer, but felt life dealt him a bad hand with the passing of his mom. With his inspiration to travel and be a trainer lost, Silas turns to a more disingenuous lifestyle to pull himself up in the world.
When he meets honest trainers like Axel, Hasumi, Daijobu, Bibi, Koa, Rouka, Orchis, Ayumu, and most of the rest of the cast he wants to break from his habits to join their ranks, but feels the weight of his past gambits keep him from the straight and narrow. Like someone from the outside looking in.
Though, Silas would for sure register trainers like these in his Pokenav and send them messages every once and a while to get an idea of what he might be missing out on as an official trainer.
Whether he was left on read or not it would be stuff like:

Silas is actually a name I do like, that wasn't aimed at him (I like the eco concept too). I think unique names can work so long as they're balanced out by more common names too. I know there are real people with names like Sapphire and Rayne, and Pokemon characters like Drasna and Alder, but I know a dozen Daves and Roberts for every name like that I actually encounter. I think a good middleground is pairing an unusual first or last name with a common one: Albert (or AL) Wainwright, Ivan Masters, Cecilia Greene, etc. with the possibility of characters referring to them by either name. Or using ethnic names (like Silas) from regions not yet covered by a Pokemon game: Sieg, Talia, Rami, etc. While they may be uncommon to certain parts of the world, they're not necessarily uncommon to the world itself, in contrast to a name like Saber Blight.

Just because some people in the Pokemon World are superhuman doesn't mean literally everyone is.

You're the one being disingenuous here by taking something like this at face value since it's very obvious the writers didn't even take the realistic weight of the thing in the anime.
No, Ash throwing a massive-ass log is not Ash being superhuman. It's that the episode was wrapping up, there was no time to write anything half-decent, and they just threw some random nonsensical shit and called it a day since surprise surprise the anime is written by hacks most of the time.
And then there's stuff that's very clearly gags. No, Ash getting constantly electrocuted by Pikachu with no ill effects doesn't mean he's more resistant to electricity than Luffy.
No, TR getting sent blasting off doesn't mean they've got superhuman endurance and resilience.

I totally see Koa hanging out with the Furians for some time. They, too, have to deal with responsibility, and some kind of adventure involving their dragon lore would be right up Koa’s alley. I also really see him working with Bibi, perhaps after his main story when he’s travelling to different places. He’d be a good fit for her extended cast for a while, and Bibianon has already drawn some interactions between them. I have to return the favor someday… Hemlock is really not set in stone at all, as is my whole story outline, but when I get to fleshing him out more I think he’d be rivals with Alex.

Can I just say, I have this feeling that Bibi would be the one that the friend group revolves around? She’s one of the most social characters. She can bring them together for pretty much anything, at least the kid-aged characters.

I think Rouka’s not into adventuring as much, so I don’t know if Koa would work well with her, but she’s also preppy like Bibi, so that could be interesting. Maybe she’d like Koa’s Milotic. I’d say something about Emily but I think Gremlinanon would probably find my impressions wrong (no offence!).

Sure. Well, I've spoken about it before, but Koa probably wouldn't get along too well with Emily for a few reasons. Emily's obsession with going further into higher levels of battling would speak to Koa as a thirst for power. Emily took down Team Plasma in her story, but what is she actually like, morally speaking? She seems to want everyone to rise above and defend themselves, but in Koa's mind, a protector should be there for those who cannot defend themselves. There's a thin balance of nature, humans and Pokémon in Koa's environment. Alola's like a big family in his mind (and I do intend to show this in my writing), so maybe Koa would believe that Emily, who grew up in a big city, just wouldn't get it.

At the same time, I feel that Emily would likely have the same thoughts about Koa. She'd probably call him soft, or some kind of hippie, or maybe she'd think he's deluding himself. After all, someone who strives to be a guardian should definitely be stronger (and Emily would probably wipe the floor with Koa's current team). I think it's interesting because Koa's a lot more about morals, ideals, compassion and balance, while Emily is a realist who only cares about raw power and results. Koa would be fine with being a protector for others and taking those burdens, while in Emily's ideal world everyone would be so strong that problems would fix themselves.

That said, I do think they could face a threat together and maybe become frenemies. Emily might be the one that inspires Koa to become an E4.

An expected response I wouldn't fault characters for having considering she herself knows how like 90% of the time people on her kind of road are just power hungry scum.

Emily cares about protecting innocent people but at the same time she's not so naive as to say no one should rise to be able to defend themselves or their own communities. She and people like her can't be everywhere at once. She saw this plain as day back in Unova as even her + the 8 gym leaders weren't able to keep a firm grip on the rather slippery Team Plasma and lots of places had no real protection and the protectors were stretched thin. Not everyone can be protected by her or people like her and more people need to be able to defend themselves from these type of threats. That's her thought on it.

I'm getting a more rounded idea of this OC as I go. Trying to put together a name now and I kinda think Newton Dumas rolls off the tongue and hits those Ghost type themes I wanted.

They're a bit more subtle than normal Gym Leader names like Norman the Normal specialist or Brock the Rock specialist, but I think the ideas are visible. It also sounds nice when said all at once. It's not a rhyme but I don't remember the term for what it is.

As I'm thinking on the character I like the idea of him being excessively chill. He'd wander and end up staying in different locations for a while with his team while strategizing over how to beat the local Gym Leader. He'd work odd jobs for a bit of extra spending money; I say extra because it feels like trainers are always able to get by without any apparent attempts to earn money in the first place, but I feel like money would help out here and there anyways. I digress though. I think Newton would be friendly enough with the locals for helping out around town or the city though not overly social. This feels like a good contrast to feelings of frustration those he eventually beats might feel because he likes to rely on bullshit to get over hurdles. Frosslass with Destiny Bond, Sableye with Foul Play, Scolipede with the Toxic Spikes and poison in general, and stuff like that. His battle style is figuring out how to not let you have your way and winning before you get your momentum back.

Oh, Koa's not saying people shouldn't defend themselves if possible, he's just a lot more open to the idea of taking that responsibility for others himself. He wouldn't go as far as to expect people to act, like Emily does, because that's his own brand of idealism. If no one does this, he will. Thanks, and yeah I'm slowly noticing most of the people in here have much more elaborate backstories and eccentric concepts for their OC's by comparison. I don't really have the specifics yet, but I still kinda get it from skimming. Right now I'm still working out a foundation for mine, so I'm just shrugging it off though. I need a core I can make sense of before I can start adding frills. Special skills, unique teammates, story beats that make a journey more interesting, that sort of stuff should eventually come in but I don't know what to do yet.

Yes, but as I said, Emily has come to the reality that a protector can't be everywhere at once. So more people need to be able to defend themselves. Her main issue is the fact that people capable of protecting others are too few and it stretches them too thin. So she wants more people to aspire to actual power that can actually defend others themselves or at least buy time for help to arrive rather than just get utterly rolled. And the bit about people accepting harsh realities is cause she's a fucking dork that has read too much fiction where people blame the hero for not unrealistically saving every single person where it was physically impossible to stop the enemy from taking someone's life in the heat of the situation or avoid collateral property damage and such either cause the enemy is just ubhinged as fuck or is too strong to be taken down while wrangling her own power to a level that won't go destroying anything. So she by default is on guard against ingrates who don't understand the actual situations and think it's rational to expect someone to magically make everything perfect with no one dying in major conflicts and no collateral damage whatsoever even against the strongest enemies.

Koa's a lot less concerned with what people will think. He knows he likely won't be everywhere, and yeah he hasn't read/watched as much as Emily, so to him all these thinks "make sense". He might be naîve in Emily's eyes, but Koa just thinks that as long as he's doing what's right (which he doesn't see in terms of what *he* believes, he's a lot more boxed in and acts in ways he's seen from his family or the Kahunas as "what's right"), then none of it matters. Ultimately, I don't think he'd have anything against Emily either. They just have wildly different perspectives from the same good intentions. Koa is also a lot lighter as a character than Emily is, despite one of them being a fit, athletic teen who commands dragons and the other is a tiny grumpy gremlin girl with a semi-talking Mawile. The fact that we put these spins on concepts by shaping characters in different ways is pretty wild

Also here's the latest Hemlock sketch. I think he's looking good. But he should look more Sugimori-esque, that's more of an artstyle thing though

Haha this one is totally on me. I do only get away with it because it's an original region ngl. If an OC has an odd name it's probably mine lmao, probably because I generally only do fantasy writing.

Unfortunately some civilians are out of touch and blame the hero if so much as one thing goes wrong sometimes. A handful of hostages died in an attack as opposed to her letting HUNDREDS die? Still gonna end up getting blamed for "not doing enough" in a situation with no possible perfect outcome to it. So she's kinda on-guard about it. More people being capable of protection means less likelihood of coming up short with victims dead and/or homes/livelihoods destroyed in the crossfire. This is maybe the one thing he'd probably be at odds with Emily about. She's a very self made and self defined girl. A very rare individual who can truly say they took the route they did and fight the battles that she does solely for her own reasons rather than because of a belief some kind of populace has or because someone ordered her to. She admittedly has an outright disdain for people who try to take on roles like the one Koa does for the kind of reasons that a more "boxed in" person does. She idolizes Red as a Trainer but it's simply that, idolization for his abilities as a Trainer. Beyond how he seemed to just take the crown, toss it aside and vanish, sending the Pokemon League at the time into a likely hissyfit. That somewhat shapes how she plans to shake the Pokemon League to it's core a second time (but will never get the chance due to major plot events majorly changing things), she doesn't really get her actions influenced by Red beyond that. She wouldn't bother attacking Koa for it or let a threat go unchecked just cause he's there, but she probably wouldn't outright like him because of that "boxed in mindset" either.

Yeah, Koa’s a lot more lawful or neutral good. He acts because it’s the right thing to do, but doesn’t question if that’s because it’s the kind of good he’s been taught by someone else or if there’s an objective good. Even if he’s at odds with his family in certain situations, Koa highly values a sense of belonging, both to his own family, and to all of Alola as a big family. I guess in a way he thinks that if he helps others, that might start a domino effect of people taking action together I plan to play into that, since in this story Elio’s off on a trip through Ultra Space so the people of Alola have to start helping each other. Koa acts from the heart, and is a lot less bothered about how others will see him for any successes or failures. As long as he does his best, he’s doing well.

That clashes with Emily, who very much keeps track of all results and will have to face what others think of her role as a combatant in the Plasma conflict, in both the good and the bad. I’m not sure which DnD morality box you’d put her in, but that “doing what I think is right” would probably land her in a neutral or chaotic box.

Koa’s a lot more concerned with belonging and in-group ideals than Emily’s self-made ethic as a Trainer. I don’t think it’s impossible for them to work together and maybe learn from each other, but yeah they probably wouldn’t get along kek

Ok I am finally home and want to ramble a bit on this bit cause I think it's particularly neat.
Always thought the title of Witch was fitting for Hasumi from a handful of angles.
Firstly, from a visual standpoint, the natural (read as undyed) black-white hair given by her circumstances is nothing but unnatural, coupled with her mannerisms, way of speech and garderobe (not to mention the affinity towards ghost types) would tend towards the image of a witch. Many have come to that conclusion themselves, Hasumi included, however she does not mind it one bit. Also crack headcanon lorebit, one of Shauntal's hobbies while alive was to dress up Hasumi in various(mostly lolita styled) outfits, which has stuck with her over the years.
Secondly, the image of a witch can be seen even through her fighting style. The general strategy relies on momentum control throughout the earlygame, followed up by softening up the opponent midage, and lastly lategame cleanup, usually involving houndstone, and it can be cleanly cut in three phases as such. One of the key aspects to maintaining phase 2 is disrupting the opponent's own strategy, by any means necessary. This does not stop at the pokemon aspect, but also a bit on the psychological side on the trainer. Basically just imagine reading kingambit suckers for five turns in a row and/or being as annoying for the opponent as possible. At worst the opponent would characterize this state of being as if being put under a spell (when in reality she just ran their patience very thin with stupid Zoroark ploys or Golurk unga bunga)
And thirdly, from an outsider perspective, the sheer devotion her pokemon (at least three of them in particular) haver towards Hasumi would seem like they were under her spell. Both Chandelure and Golurk belonged to Shauntal initially, who feel some level of guilt regarding her passing, as well as a strong desire to protect their last bit of family. (1/2)

She'd consider Koa's validation and his virtues stemming from what others tell him/told him and that desire for "belonging". Not cause wanting to belong is inherently weak-- she can't really claim that while valuing her 2 sisters as highly as she does-- but to her it's for all the wrong reasons and for the wrong kind of people. The kind of people who would likely persecute him if his way of thinking didn't conform to their's.

Emily would likely think she has nothing to outright learn from Koa but she wouldn't outright assert he should be learning anything from her either. She's done a lot of self reflection on the WHY behind a lot of the things she does and PART of it is just the realization that some parts of some society and some individual people just don't don't want to be/just cannot be helped and she's not going to go asserting to someone else that they 100% should see things HER way.

They either see things her way through her actions or she simply moves on once the crisis is settled and lets things shake out however they may. She's not interested in saving and redeeming the world, she only cares about the people she deems "worth saving" or are "WILLING to be saved". Cause otherwise it's a futile struggle.

With Golurk in particular pushing itself towards his own physical limits, towards worrying degrees, but being capable of achieving great feats as a result. Meanwhile, while Zoroark is mostly uninvolved with the whole Hasumi family dramas, she was there during the undisclosed (read as 'I haven't thought it out yet') Zirca arc, where both saw the worst of the human spirit. Ever since Zoroark's been rather motivated to protect her airheaded trainer even more than before.
