Koa’s different in that he really doesn’t ask so many questions. He doesn’t ask himself why he does what he does, if the people and Pokémon he wants to help deserve it or even want to be helped, or how people will treat him if something goes wrong. That’s kind of a naïve outlook, but his sense of duty and honor reduce those concerns he might have on his mind more prominently otherwise. Koa would also not take kindly to Emily questioning if the people of Alola deserve helping, because Koa would simply retort with the idea that the people of Alola are kind and they care for each other. That can be right or wrong in the end, but that’s how he sees it. In his mind, someone like Emily, from a more cosmopolitan environment, just wouldn’t see it that way. Another interesting tidbit I’d like to add is that, I feel that sometimes, Koa likes Pokémon more than he does people. He’s introspective, a bit lonely at times. Koa genuinely believes his Pokémon are his best friends and he never wants to part from them. He spends a lot of time in the wilderness. In a place like Alola, which is constantly changing, a kid like him, trying to adapt to those changes and balance the new with the old as he struggles with the views of others (his parents being too strict with the old and Hemlock fast-tracking the new in Alola for his own gain), the wild is really the only environment where Koa really feels like he understands everything. I can imagine an older Koa retreating to the Canyon for good, not to be a hermit like Red, but because he loves the Pokémon of the Canyon that much. Not that he’s someone like N, who is a lot more sympathetic to Pokémon than humans, but the simple way Koa sees the world and the place he seeks in it might be kind of like a Pokémon’s mindset. At the end of the day, if one person is unhappy with him, he knows that the balance he seeks to bring to nature will be far more thankful in the end. Not that he cares about thankfulness anyway.

In the end Emily would most likely just sigh through her nose and walk away simply because stating facts and logic doesn't really do anything. He's a simple, wilderness boy who hasn't really seen as many layers of these things as she has but talking down to him with her experiences isn't going to help if a blunt stating of other facts has done nothing. He'll likely remain stuck in his ways until something goes VERY wrong-- if it does at all and that's something where all she can do is just walk away and let time take it's course. Cause at the end of the day regardless of any notions people might have about Emily, she's not interested in outright forcing people to see things her way like a lot of power fantasy type characters would do or how the kind of edgelord people (rather inaccurately desu) perceive her to be would do. Enough time spent reflecting has led her to this conclusion. They either do want to be helped in the way that she deems as helpful or she just walks away and lets them find out on their own because sometimes there just is no helping someone or something avoid a particular problem or fault. Some people just don't want it, regardless of the why behind it.

I find it funny because Emily sees it as if Koa ignores some kind of facts and logic, whereas Koa simply thinks Emily’s too jaded or she cares too much about what others think. Koa sees the good in others, while Emily’s more pessimistic. I guess Koa’s idealism is a bit more all-encompassing while Emily is more concerned with what affects the people close to her specifically.

I’ll see if I can get some writing done this afternoon. I have to finish the main plot beats to have a proper outline. I think the written text I have planned is going to be a bit long, but I’m going at it with a scriptwriter’s perspective.

I've been liking the idea that Newton supplements the diets of his Ghosts using his own lifeforce, but rather than reducing his lifespan it's more of a fatigue thing. So, first order of business is waking up groggy and crawling out of like three blankets because his temp ends up running cold because of the ghosts. Second order of business is probably getting a robe and some slippers, again to stay warm. Third thing he's doing is cooking a big breakfast for himself and his team; mostly himself since he goes through a lot of carbs maintaining an eqiluilibrium with his health.

On the side I really like the idea of Newton and his team being quite close and on the same page with scumbaggery strats. The ghosts being sneaky and having the ability to phase through walls and spy on others would help with information gathering. He would have originally got the idea after hearing about failed translation machines from around the world before thinking he might just be able to teach one or two how to read and write; just convey their thoughts with a whiteboard or notepad. Cute mental image of him teaching Sableye and Frosslass the ABC's and how to hold a pencil since those two actually have hands.

Mostly I imagine fights taking the place off the pokemon setting since... they are not so cool and cinematic for me. I have a very rich imagination and used to watch a lot of jojo leitmotif manga videos to shape epic anime fights in my head. Adding some deltarune fan tracks and I just lie there and see some cringe-kino how Tweny kicks ass and yada-yada. Few of tracks I listen for specific "sagas" because how much they fit for AMVs in my head

Anime style battles where moves can be reinterpreted different ways and Pokemon can act outside just using moves. I think Newton having a casual enjoyment of competition and battling would be fun, and having him commonly hit up local fields sounds good. He might do more battling than training, instead studying losses and giving pointers to his team for what to do next time. The training he would do with his team would be more sedate than Ash's hotblooded salty runback stuff after he faces big losses, and instead work around a schedule and routine built around the tactics he wants to use.

Is Koa really that wholesome? I’ve been thinking about how your OCs reflect you and stuff. I grew up in an environment where people were bickering around me all the time, so I guess it was natural to write stories about someone who is caught in a struggle that overtakes his whole environment. Part of me kinda feels like Koa should have a “face the music” moment like what Emily would say in Gremlinanon’s posts, as if my writing were too unrealistic, but I do like that feel-good storytelling. I want to write something light-hearted, but with moments of drama and gravity too. I hope that makes sense.

Emily, Hasumi and Alex are Unovan characters. Orchis and Bibi are Paldean characters. I can’t remember where Axel is from at the moment (Paldean too?). I think Paldea’s school setting makes it very easy to make OCs. Hell, I’ve considered making a Paldean OC too for personal reasons. Rouka is Kantonian, I can’t recall where that new Newton guy is from…

I’m the only one with an Alolan character, because I think Alola is one of the richest settings in Pokémon history. Galar and Paldea have tried to replicate the amazing feeling that Alola had, to differing levels of success. I’d personally say Paldea’ storytelling does go in a different direction that I really like, but Galar kinda felt like they were trying to recapture lightning in a bottle. Regardless, I don’t dislike a single Pokémon game at all. That’s just me, though.

Vega's region is super cool and iirc has more of a high fantasy theme going on that other regions don't really have. OC regions are a higher barrier to entry as you have to write it and anons have to read it to get on board. But it's a small price to pay for really injecting something unique to the world of Pokemon

If your OC can/could use Z-Moves, would they do the dance or would they just show off their Z-Ring/Z-Power Ring while the power is unleashed like you do with Mega Evolution?

In my interpretation, the dance is necessary for the Z-Move. It’s a way to channel the Pokémon’s type energy through the human body, and screen it through human input back to the Pokémon for the Z-Move. So yeah, Koa has to do the whole dragon gesture to actually use Clangorous Soulblaze with Mo-o. Hell, I’d even write the choreography being more complicated than the games/anime show, just to give the plot device more oomph. You need to know the dance or gesture to do the move, just showing the crystal won’t work. That means you can half-ass the dance and fail the Z-Move too, if you’re not dilligent.

I imagine battles being like the anime but especially take a lotta inspiration from the battle in the intro of Pokemon the 3rd movie. I really love the idea of using the playground as part of the battlefield incorporating the environment into battles and being able to take advantage of surroundings in order to win is pretty fun. I also interpret moves more fluidly. If Jynx is gonna use ice punch she unleashes a flurry of punches, not just one. All of bellossom's moves are "dance" moves and it basically never stops moving around. The attack patterns just change. You can put a lotta personality into how a pokemon battles.
I also really love the idea of contest battles. I kinda wish they had become a mainstay of the series. I love how they had to be both battles AND be visually spectacular. It kinda turns the concept of just playing optimally on its head and sorta forces trainers to be creative.

People seem to be interpreting this question as “How do you interpret Pokemon battles in your writing” (which is fine, I think it’s cool to share how we envision battles), so I thought I should rephrase the question: What Trainers do you fantasize about your OC battling against? What Pokémon matchups between Trainers would you fantasize about? Can be singles, doubles, full team, half team, etc, can be from anywhere in the Pokemon canon such as Pokespe, Ashnime, games, and more

To answer both questions:

Clearly, I think of the anime in terms of battles, but I don’t think I have ideas that are too wild. I like to see movement, I like to see creative moves in use, I like crazy strategies like the thunder armour actually (even if it makes zero sense). If I were smart enough to turn my battles into JoJo fights, I’d try to do that. JoJo is a great example because it involves fights between two (or more) guys whose powers are often wildly different from each other, so the one who’s smarter wins, not necessarily the strongest one. So pit two weird animals with elemental powers against each other, and provided there’s no clear type advantages in the matchup, the one who wins will have had to create some kind of stratagem where they tire out their enemy or attack from an unexpected angle. I might want to write it that way.

In terms of who I’d want Koa to fight? Well, he’s canonically passed his own Trial Challenge in the past, so he’s already fought all the Kahunas (not at full power, mind you). Right now I picture him battling Lillie, who would be his first successful trialgoer, as well as Hemlock, of course. But that’s not a canon character. I think in the future Koa would like to battle prominent Dragon specialists like Lance, Drayden, Raihan and of course, his idol, Hassel. A match between him and Cynthia would be cool too, especially because she’s been shown to have a Kommo-o in recent media, both the Master Journeys anime and Masters EX. Kinda crazy, if you ask me, that they’d just agree to prominently give her a new team member to choose from, but I wish other characters got that treatment. I could totally see Steven Stone with a Garganacl or a Coalossal. The older Dragon specialists desperately need this treatment due to a lack of Dragon types in their own time, too.

Yes I figured Koa had the alolan/hawaiian inspiration. Orchis sounded more fantasy to me (probably because of Orcrist the Goblin Cleaver), though I see it's a plant with a surprising greek definition. I think Furian/Furia is also something from Chronicles of Riddick; not that names can't be used for different things. I used to go heavy on the "deep, meaningful japanese names" but now they just sound like Bankais to me.

Anime style battles, especially full team, multi-trainer battlefields. I have some battle scenes to flesh out with my trainers surrounded by grunts, maybe 5:1 or 10:1 ratios, and they have to send out everything at once to stand a chance. None are following a gym/league challenge so they wouldn't be seeking out leaders or champions to battle, instead facing off against criminals, rivals, or wild Pokemon.

Anon, “furia” is Spanish for fury. It’s that simple. I think Vega’s anon is going for some vaguely Hispanic inspirations, so it fits. Also, Orchis is close to orchid, which is a flower. I think Kingu is a Mesopotamian thing, FGO told me so. There’s a few others:

Hahaha I knew it was me! I agree though, despite actually fitting in with the Paldean Instructors in terms of naming scheme it does feel pretty fantasy. Also YEAH ON THE GREEK DEFINITION. I found that one out AFTER making him and I was so surprised when I read it lmao.

Furia is actually just the spanish word for rage or anger, that's where that name comes from. Furia was technically supposed to be a central america based region but it's kinda gone full melting pot on me. The influences are still mostly latin american though, like how one of the major clans is called Nezahual or one of the gods is based off Xipe Totec.

Thats partially how I've written the fight; Axel brought along an Arcanine and a Ninetales not only to be a source of heat in the mountains, but also weaken the potency of Articuno's attacks.

I've been wanting to adapt the various regional gimmicks into Furia somehow. Z-Moves are pretty interesting, since it requires a specific dance to do. Big fan of when magic in fiction is more than just saying a name, or even better is when it powers up the spell being casted.

Since Relexio, the next city I'll be working on, is all about the arts and song I think it's a good place to incorporate something like that. The more elaborate and the greater the intensity of your performance the more your bonded Pokemon is able to draw out power to perform the move, or something. I've been also playing with the idea of creating some entirely new moves based of creating terrain, so maybe interlocking the two ideas would work well mixed together. dunno!

Thanks, seems like a much different take than any existing Pokemon concepts. Almost reminds me of that one tactics game that came out where you were matched against figures in Feudal Japan including Nobunaga with his Zekrom. An older region, a close bond with allies, clan heads, that's the vibes I'm getting. It's neat seeing this as an older idea that you adapted and developed.

Thank you again. I've been enjoying myself so far but I definitely get what you're saying. Can't really see an end in sight right now. So far I'm thinking of a traditional region and have a grid map I got from the site that I'm using for inspiration as I go. Unsure on the exact themes so far but I'm sorta thinking Decay and/or Lifecycles at the moment. I'd like to find something else to flesh it out further but I don't know what yet. I've almost got the bones of a starting town done and might post that in a bit.

Embarrassing confession here: for years I had been developing a fan region based on Spain. My ideas changed over time, I even had other people involved, but I even made a bunch of (shitty by today’s standards) Fakémon. I was initially calling it Ignitia, but that changed to Hollé (meant to sound like “¡olé!”, sort of meant to mimic Alola with “aloha”). I always thought that the villainous team had to look like the Inquisition. However, writing a setting like this for a game would’ve been VERY hard for Game Freak to do. Look at France, they had to pull in Norse mythology. Spain is a historically religious country too, with not too many well-known myths to make a large new mythology about, like how Sword and Shield could fall back on Arthurian legend for the legendary dogs, or Sun and Moon with all its polynesian influences. But I have no hard feelings over this, and I think Paldea was pretty fun! Although part of me wishes they had been as aggressive with the theming as they were with Hawaii… understandable, however, since Hawaii is apparently a huge tourist destination for the Japanese.

Maybe someday I’ll make my Paldean OC and make something a lot more culturally driven. I’m not sure what that would be, though, but I’ve pictured the idea of maybe a Fighting specialist who uses Tauros? I must focus on Koa for now…

Some of the information for the OC Region I'm going to work on as Newton's home, the Taysha region.

>Starting Location: Moloam Town

>Description: Moloam is a small town tucked away within the mountains of Western Taysha at a relatively low elevation. It's known for being a relatively prosperous yet isolated farming community, and for hosting the laboratory of Professor Persimmon. Once a year, Persimmon is known to provide Pokedexes to talented young trainers from the local community who are ready to begin their adventures. Moloam has a relatively high population of elderly due to many youths venturing out into the wider world, and the peaceful nature of the town making it ideal as a retirement village.

>Additional Information: Professor Persimmon commonly provides one of three starters to new trainers, though their rarity often puts this opportunity on a first come first serve basis. These three Pokemon are Chespin, Tepig, and Piplup with final evolutions peculiar to the Taysha Region.

Unfortunately my generic ass answer to this is that it'd be cool to see bibi fight other champions or bosses like giovanni. of the champions ones like cynthia or leon could be fun because i think a cool way of putting her on the backfoot would be having her deal with a gimmick she can't do herself. i also headcanon that red can nonverbally command his pokemon, like they *know* what he wants them to do. given bibis own tendency to command through signals rather direct orders it could be fun to have her go up againt an opponent who she could feel free to silently fight while still in a low-stakes scenario. as for evil team bosses its moreso a matter of the fact that bibi hasn't really dealt with any human villains.

in fact a big reason why tes is what he is, i thought a fun enemy for b would be someone with a gimmick she can't use and who is thoroughly ill intentioned.

as for how i write battles i still want to improve and settle into a proper style, but i like to try and communicate motions, make use of proper moves, and incorporate attacks outside of that. for example during the koraidon showdown i wrote moves like collision course and flamethrower are used, but they also bite, punch, and wrestle without any of those attacks necessarily being part of their moveset

Newton himself stayed in school rather than go out into the world like other trainer hopefuls so he's already an adult by the time he hits the trail. He didn't really qualify for the Pokedex or Starter programs ran by the local professor, but also didn't really mind. He caught his partners outside of town years prior so he had a bit of a head start compared to other beginner trainers, even if he started pretty late. Litwick probably would have been with him since he was a kid, Venipede probably caught a few years later, and both of them would be pretty strong or even in their mid-stages before he actually decided to start wandering.

That's one of the specific things I thought about with it honestly so you get what I was going for.

They prefer to make their own surfboards out of driftwood and having a really nice one would be like a status symbol.

Probably a Rock Hopper. Rather than Prinplup's crest turning into the regal trident hound, it would probably be more wild plumage like the Rock Hopper's in my mind.

It was actually the last one I figured out after having more concrete ideas the other two, so you can probably just do whatever.

On that note, the design inspiration I had with that was pic related. This was where I started, and from there I got the idea to make all three contrast their original concepts. Chesnaught is more of a black knight instead of a white knight. Emboar is unfocused and inwardly concerned. Empoleon is fun and brash instead of classy and refined. There's that for however much that helps.

if they didn't want us to have so many kommo-os they shouldn’t have made them so badass. bibi's is a very temperamental and proud sort, so much so that during the brief stint of time where she loses confidence in herself as a trainer it can practically smell the insecurity and refuses to obey her til she gets over it, but i think in the face of mo-o's friendliness its surly attitude practically melts because it's hard to antagonize someone so friendly, i'm sure sparring matches would stay exciting tho lol

These two points are true. Jaded part is true too but she doesn't particularly care what people think, she just is on-guard about potential ingrates and unrealistic people who expect even the worst situations to go perfectly just cause someone arrived to help at all.

She also knows not ALL situations can be helped and sometimes people don't want to be helped or saved. Naivety or Koa's kind of simplicity is just another thing Emily deems people need to be saved from but she knows that if he's going to just cling to it tightly there's no point in trying and it's better to let him find out things for himself. She wants to help people, not control them. If they won't listen, they're on their own, she's out and hitting the road again.

Probably a bit of Anime cause it's more flexible and just more realistic cause a lot of the games is just Pokemon standing around taking 90% of hits and getting blown up in 1-3 hits. But of course I add in more Shonen-y elements and there's a wider divide between Normals and Abnormals.

Yeah see, that’s where they differ most. Koa’s not worried about guarding himself from someone who might be ungrateful, he really really doesn’t think he should care. Deep down, maybe he would, but Koa would just try to be stoic about it. The whole “haha Spider-Man, the city hates you” play wouldn’t work on him because as long as he stays boxed in in his idea of what to do, he’ll probably be fine. The whole “hero this city needs VS the hero it deserves” thing really isn’t Koa’s deal. He just acts and doesn’t think about why or what he’ll get out of it. That’s a bit more Superman-esque for him. Although, I imagine a “bad end” Koa would just retreat to the Canyon to live amongst Pokémon if people started piling up against him.

I think you and I are also fundamentally different in the kinds of stories we want to write kek, you’re a lot more concerned with showing the real-life impact of a Team Plasma crisis, and what I imagine is kind of a deconstruction of the whole Pokémon setting in a way. I’d rather just have fun and tell a story about people who act in the ways we can only ever aspire to. You’re a bit more realistic in your writing, while I look to make something more aspirational. That’s alright, it’s just different styles and tones. Pretty interesting to compare. Reminds me of the “Disney hero meets Netflix hero” videos. Make no mistake, though: Hemlock is an evil motherfucker. He’ll try to bring down Koa with similar things to what Emily would say, thrown in amongst his own kind of self-serving trickery and KYS bomb drops.I just personally prefer stories where the hopeful hero stays hopeful in the end, I guess.

Just keep in mind Emily has more than 6, she travels with two sets of Pokeballs as a primary team and backup team.

>Mawlie just eats whatever Emily is eating at the time. She's maybe the only Pokemon besides Tinkaton on her team that eats human food with her for the most part.

Volcarona, Frosmoth and Golisopod's mouths are not fit for much in the way of human food and are better with berries which she keeps lots of in her digital storage box.

Her Hydreigon is fucking massive and needs too much food in a single sitting for her to feed the dragon anywhere but a Pokemon Center.

Aegislash to me is a low maintenance Pokemon only needing to drain some energy once in a while and largely only outright drains someone to death if they stop showing the qualities that earned it's loyalty in the first place or if they would have died anyway and did it as a mercy. Otherwise a topped-off Aegislash only takes small increments of stamina/fatigue based energy once in a while like how some bugs only need to feed once a week or so in nature. Same goes for her Froslass she has on her backup team

Ceruledge is sometimes given human food but otherwise mostly just eats berries or Pokemon Center food since it's similar to the food she was given from the Pokemon Breeder that Emily got her from.

Magnezone of course just drains electricity from things it would be relatively harmless to take some from when possible.

I wouldn't say I am concerned with some kind of real life impact of things it's just even in fantasy stories and shonen stories the people being saved are sometimes totally out of touch ingrates. And there's a few of those in my own plot line. Otherwise it's about as idealism and spectacle driven as yours probably is. Just a bit more heavy. Emily's hopeful and has complete confidence in her own ability to get anything in front of her done, she's just a lot more jaded and sometimes a bit dark in it's execution. The idea of failure never crosses her mind but she knows doing things the way some small town hero boy or saturday morning cartoon hero would won't get anything done and sometimes people are just problematic.

Ayumu doesn't really connect with other people, but he would be "acquaintances in friendly terms" with almost anyone here, exceptions being Alex and Emily (from the top of my head).
Alex is a little to quickly to opt for violence and cruelty, so Ayumu would rather avoid that;
While Ayumu doesn't get very confortable around "high effort people", the main reason he wouldn't get along with Emily is because she would hate him.
On the other hand, Ayumu would have a higher regard towards Silas in virtue of having had an little quest together, and would "secretely" hope that he allows himself to give the old dream a chance (Ayumu isn't too good at bothering with people, but he's good at undertanding them, so at some point he would notice this lingering feeling in Silas' heart, then would give a passing encouragement, and proceed to never mention it again unless prompted).
Other notable mentions are:
Orchis, as mentioned before, since Ayumu would find teasing him pretty amusing;
Ayumu would be one of the few people that would listen to Alto singing, and would even give a dry complement like "that's pretty good" with a completely neutral face (tho Alto may not really appreciate it or take him seriously);
Rouka's fashion talk would go completely over his head, but if she doesn't mind a silent listener, he would at least listen.
On that note, Ayumu is one of those people that others just for some reason feel at ease to talk about their problems (I call it a "Psychologist Aura"), he wouldn't say a single word of advice and yet the others just end up helping themselves and thanking him, again, for some reason (think Willy's therapy section with the Oompa Loompa).

While Ayumu is hardly a common name, it means "Dream Walker", which I think fits pretty nicely with a narcoleptic wanderer.
At first I didn't think of a surname/family name, but then Vega asked for a full name and I was like "Oh shit.", but then I decided for Kuromiya, which means "Dark Shrine", fits well enough with a trainer with a tendency to gather Ghost Types, and I plainly found it very cool (maybe influence of my edgy teenage self).

What makes you say that? People seemed to have quite a few misconceptions so far like that she'd somehow outright HATE their characters or would get physical/threaten violence with them when it was moreso either indifference or something and a "civil code" of not actually using her physical force against civilian types unless they insisted on fighting.

This is a chapter that will be remembered in infamy for me as the one that did not want to be finished. While doing some research for an early scene, I experienced a funny case of mistaken identity at a Spanish steakhouse in some distant university town outside of Chicago. I don't know who they mistook me for truthfully, I was just LARPING as Franco to get in the character's mindset but they did everything short of offer a back massage to make sure I was satisfied. After a brief back-and-forth en Española, the owner of the establishment went so far as to gift me a tall bottle of expensive wine "because they liked me so much."
Anons, you don't give someone a bottle of wine because you like them. You do so when you're worried about the mafia knocking on your back door. My bill was $104 for one. I paid in cash to preserve the mystique, and I really thought that would be the most extraordinary part of my week. But two hospital trips, a lost fingernail and a burned throat later, I'm just glad I finally have something to publish.

Actually, it was a pretty relaxing evening for me, the Main Character of real life. So, what's the average 'tism level you indulge in while making your OCs? How ham do you go - vanilla Pokemon, mostly vanilla, or whole-hog, widly-changed power fantasy?
I'm trying to develop my OC and setting and I have plenty of ideas, I'm just not sure how far I should stretch things or how to make a character feel unique and interesting without going overboard.
How do you do it, anons?

Poor Volbeat being Alex’s go-to shitmon example out of the gate. Alex is right where the thief would try to come to its rescue.
Do you think Cramorant would be trained to operate independently to search for the thief across Unova? Or in combination with HIPS?
I wonder what Mistralton has in store for Alex.

That’s the point. It’s meant to depict Alex as more of a force of nature than an actual person. If he sets his sights on you then nothing short of an atom bomb can stop him. All you can do is run.

No, it’s too dumb for that. Originally Alex’s Dragapult was going to do that but then I realized that it would have no way of communicating if and where it found Silas, and no way of knowing where exactly it’s supposed to search (Don’t think Pokemon know what a “Mistralton” is). Plus, Alex dismissing it serves to emphasize how he only views Pokemon as tools, and not ones capable of carrying out complex tasks.

My philosophy is to get a bunch of inspirations/things I like together and start trying to mold it into a character concept. Then you just start thinking about stuff like: where did they grow up? What do they think about this or that? what sort of experiences led them to who they are today? Like if you strip out the bells and whistles that you wanna add like cool skills or Pokemon, what is interesting about that specific character? What do the bells and whistles you think would be neat add to said character?

Eventually you think and think, maybe answer questions in the thread and make a character sheet and boom eventually the character starts to live a life on their own.

More like her valuing of people's freedoms and especially her own but also that somewhat Chaotic Neutral sense of justice where she just has to do what SHE feels is right even if it makes her out into the bad guy in some people's eyes which is a reference to Sonic's disposition in the Black Knight game where he chose to be a "King Slayer" as to do the right thing and his stance on "what good is a world that goes on forever" and such.

My personal philosophy is to write Rouka as a standard protagonist. I wanna avoid making her "special" cuz I wanna capture the down to earth vibe of early Pokemon. Her goal is just to beat the league. No destiny, No legendaries, No greater good. She just likes battlin' and catching pokemon.

Tried making up one of these based on that template I saw some using. It's probably going to change some over time as I get a better idea of the oc's character, and I was winging it for portions of the bio, but I think it came out nice enough on the whole.

Mostly Vanilla / Early anime tier. Oh there's zero canon basis. My line of thought basically went like this. Pokemon are pretty smart and capable of conveying complex ideas to one another regardless of species barriers. Pokemon can understand human language perfectly well and follow commands in battle as a result. Pokemon can manipulate tools like humans can if they have hands, and sometimes even when they don't. Therefor, it cannot be that hard to teach a Pokemon how to read and write if you properly motivate them to learn. At the very least it has to be easier than teaching them how to talk, as their natural method of speech is some bizarre system of repeating their name or weird distorted animal cries depending on continuity. The main issue is getting them motivated I think. Newton does this with food, including pokeblock.

Rojue can be considered to be a relatively good business that's been passed down from generation to generation. Those are the kind of girls Koa could work well with. Our campaigns were very very fun and smooth in the end. We had no problems. I hear a lot of complaints about how crunchy the system is, but I really feel like if everyone knows how to play, everyone has practiced, and everyone knows how their pokemon work, it should be easy.

I feel fortunate to be probably one of the only people who actually finished a PTA campaign with a satisfying start and end with most of the original players. I played that character for like four and a half years in real life time. By the end of the campaign everyone was very familiar with their stats, feats, abilities, and pokemon. If you want a short answer, no, it's not too complex or annoying. If it is, a handful of sessions and a couple months later, everyone should know the rules by then and be able to keep things going. Everyone plays the game on a computer since we played in roll20, so if you're literally on a computer while you play, the book keeping is extremely easy.

I don't think we had any 6v6 battles the entire time though. I can't remember a time where anyone battled with more than two pokemon at a time. Maybe that's why, it's just an unwritten rule for nobody to do that shit. Even the DM would not attack us with gigantic groups of enemies. But when people were just grinding or doing something uninteresting or looking for wilds, sometimes our DM would give people individual little mini sessions. None of us had an issue with watching the other players play if we split up, because the game was good, the story was good, the players all created good drama with each other, and it was just the perfect storm of a game.

You know, I might go back and make some adendums as I go. I'm trying to do a Pokedex with the region so I was thinking a lot of Water types would slot in later, around the time the player would get a fishing rod or Surf in a game. If I'm going to note local pokemon though, I should probably mention whatever is in the local rivers and ponds and stuff while I'mat it even if their numbers are later. I'm also wanting to do a few regional variants and OC evolutions (the generator on theworldofpokemon tends to suggest 11 lines from what I see) but didn't know which ones I wanted to write about. Thank you! I'm deriving mild inspiration from Texas, but for the most part I'm making things up as I go. The map is just something I got from a generator, rerolling until I was mostly satisfied with the arrangement of routes and towns. From there I'm looking at relative positions of things on the map and trying to put the region together in a way that makes sense.

In general, you can experiment with the setting quite a bit, you just have to know what you’re doing. Outside of dumb shit like giving your character bending powers or a big fucking sword or some other Deviantart garbage like that, you can make a lot of things work. A good tule of thumb is “If it seems overpowered or outlandish, then it almost certainly is”. For example, the Furia region by Veganon has some fantasy elements. My personal recommendation is to use existing settings and elements, maybe draw upon some lesser known ones such as firearms in the early anime or Delta Species from the early TCG, but that’s because there’s a lower barrier to entry. If you can make an OC region or a unique mechanic, and balance it with the canon Pokemon world, then go for it.

Regarding characterization, it depends on what you’re going for. A shonenshit story about a plucky hero becoming Champion and/or stopping a villain doesn’t need as much elaboration as a ruthless antihero that constantly makes you question their motives and methods. Regardless, the main thing that matters to me is distinguishing your character. Ask yourself, “What makes this character different from others that might have a similar role?”, and then “Does my method of distinguishing them make sense?” This can be in the form of a lot of things, personality, attire, physical and mental attributes, etc. Set some boundaries for the setting and based on the setting. Don’t go overboard, because then your character becomes overpowered and their story just becomes a bland power fantasy.

Hmm… the one thing I need to get started with my chapter 1 is writing a good final battle. Koa and Hapu will be facing a Gigantamax Toxtricity that was added to the Canyon as an invasive species, and the Dynamax Energy that is being injected in the place is making the local Pokémon endemic to Alola sick, while invasive species are randomly reacting to it. Hapu has a 4x advantage with all her team, and Koa with one or two members, but I want the fight to be more interesting than just attacks after attacks. Maybe if I take some cues from Empire Strikes Back? Play with size and weight in bringing it down. That might be good.

The reality that sane people have largely receded off to their own private circles is becoming more and more annoyingly present in my searches around. To me, begrudging alliances are for more...brief encounters. Very temporary alliances to deal with a problem and then just completely parting ways. Plus despite all my shonen slop I like my fluff and I can't push Emily as a character into fluff with another character she doesn't particularly OUTRIGHT like in general. So it kinda just wouldn't work for me but also throws a self imposed hurdle in my face that I know I'd end up regretting just ripping up and tossing aside rather than properly clearing it by sticking to my usual ways of doing things.

Well, I never said I was a DBZ fan. If anything my main battle shonens were Hunter x Hunter (2011), Bleach, Soul Eater and Jujutsu Kaisen.

As for the whole trope bit....it works for someone like Goku. He's good natured like that. Emily is not. She won't try to change non-harmful views but she can't really co-exist with them either and would rather leave the moment the crisis is resolved as to avoid her own personality grating against someone else. More for the benefit of the other person than herself.

Oh right, the fluff bit. Usually for me it's both romance and slice of life bits. Sometimes just the former, sometimes just the latter, sometimes a mix of both. But I find the ability to spread it out across a plot between major conflict moments within the storyline to be something that makes a story more...FUN to me I guess. Especially when it can gradually become something more character romance focused at some point down the line. It keeps things interesting for me so forgoing the whole slow burn romance bit ENTIRELY leaves me a BIT bored.

Part of the fun for me is seeing the ideas for it that comes out of the partner. I like seeing people's ideas as I gradually roll my stuff out to them across a long, overarching plot. Both romance and non-romance type stuff, but excluding the former entirely kinda lowers the enjoyment I derive overall. Cause in the past a handful of people have actually managed to just "wow" me before and actually make me look forward to what they will come up with, what will unfold as the signs of them nudging things into a more fluffy romance-y moment as I become more and more silently eager to see where it goes and stuff upon being given a taste (assuming they hit me with something that just really gets me into what's going on between the characters and stuff) and maybe even sometimes outright "woo" the internal mindset that is behind my piloting of Emily as a character when I am writing and actually in a sense actually ICly gets HER into it and the partner's character as a whole in her subtle ways of showing it.

Vegito is just a type of personality/character I enjoy, and in turn it's a personality that sometimes comes out in Emily if she gets really INTO a fight. Cause while she doesn't outwardly show it most of the time, she LOVES fighting. Not just formal battling but like ACTUAL fighting. Unhinged fist fights and sometimes even deathmatches. She's got a little ego and a little crazy in there. Gogeta is a personality/character by proxy to Vegito that I end up enjoying too. But I don't really care for DBZ as a whole. So I have this idea for a character and I need some help because I'm really bad with names for humans and nicknames for pokémon.

He was the manlet edgy rival to a famous trainer back in his youth. Humiliated by his defeat, he became an even edgier writer for some years and then disappeared from the public eye for 5 years. He's now back with a new full pokémon team, kinda looking like a fashion hobo wearing black monk robes, travelling the world writing edgy poetry. He's from Unova but his family came from either Johto or Hoenn, so he has this asian-american kind of background and is one of this obnoxious types you would see reading Mishima and practicing butoh theatre in NY. In this new monk persona, he acts really like a villain-wannabe tryhard when he's around people, but he's always polite to elders and quiet when he's alone or drinking. His team consists of a Hydreigon, a Murkrow, a Weavile, a Gengar, a Chandelure and a Drifblim and it's kinda based around how edgy the teams of the Sage trainer class were in Stadium 2. His old Umbreon from his younger days still live in his family's house. I'm going to do a sprite mockup of the character after work using the Sage trainer class sprite from HGSS as a base.

So what kind of name he should have? And what about his pokémon?

Heathers is okay, but actually I don’t really like the more poppy modern musicals like Hamilton and the like. I prefer older productions like Les Miserables, but the one I’ve really been listening to lately is Frank Wildhorn’s The Scarlet Pimpernel. It’s a proto-Batman story about a rich Englishman who sails to and from France to free innocents from the guillotine during Robespierre’s Reign of Terror.

Z-Moves work like Megas in that you need a deep bond with your Pokémon to use them effectively. Not just that, but Hemlock would NEVER debase himself by doing the dances. Not only are they ridiculous, but Hemlock finds Alolan customs to be outdated and barbaric. If Koa’s father is the force that keeps pushing for tradition, Hemlock is the fast-tracking of progress. The idea at play is that too much of either is bad.

Hemlock uses Dynamax and Gigantamax because those don’t need any bonds in my interpretation of the lore. The Pokémon has to either have been born with/bred to have a high Dynamax Factor, or it has to have been fed food similar to what they had in the Isle of Armour. Hemlock’s ace, a Gengar, can Gigantamax, even if to him his Pokémon are nothing but tools. It just so happens that Hemlock’s Gengar is also really cheeky and evil, so he sticks around just to support the top dog and revel in some destruction along the way.

^This anon here, sorry for the late response but thanks for all your replies, anons. I've decided to take some time re-tooling and toning down some things, try to make it a bit more down-to-earth in the setting.
I love that some of you brought up delta species, though. One thing that has been big on my mind in the Pokemon space is trying to think of my own variants/hybrids/genetically-modified Pokemon. I have a few I can maybe splash in there somehow...
I'll try again to get a character sheet together (probably still won't have any art because I really don't feel like signing up for one of those AI websites) Might post one later on tonight, we'll see.

Perhaps the 34 new incoming message notifications would suggest it was mistake. But, care and training for Volbeat/Ribombee is probably super similar, so the recommendations would be welcome.

I saw on her character sheet that she's interested in working with a performer, which fits Orchis to a T. I also just realized that he doesn't have a character sheet, so I should probably get him one lmao.

I think something like Instructor fits Orchis when he's being a TA, but when he's on the stage as Kingu (it's okay the FGO reference was semi-intentional, honestly it was more bc I already knew I was gonna reference Tiamat in Eltia's name since dragon mom so naming her descendant's stage persona as her mythological son made sense) I like the idea of giving him the Mystery Man class. Ironic since if you aren't like, a kid, he's not a very mysterious man.

If I could go special snowflake mode I'd probably give Orchis a "Instructor's Assistant" class or something

I wanna get in on the Silas love too, since I really like the idea of a man down the beaten path reaching out to people he might consider more fortunate or earnest. That sort of thing is a soft spot for me.

Orchis is always interested in working with other trainers for his matches. After all, his passion for the art remains the same even when he's having an exhibition match with a Gym Leader or just playing around with some little kids. It probably wouldn't result in much money, but I'm sure he'd invite Silas to work with him somehow. Whether that's as an opponent, a duos partner, or as a stagehand. Lil' Volbeat sounds like he'd be really good at adding light to the stage from the background, but also I feel like it's not that common of a Pokemon in most places? Don't see many trainers using one. So wouldn't it be nice to have a mon like that be a star on the stage, even if it takes some help?

Of course, the real motive for Orchis would just to see Silas and Volbeat loosen up and have fun. The point of a performance is to have both the audience and the entertainers smiling while entralled in the spectacle, after all.

That's pretty cool giving him Mystery Man, i could imagine an instructor/ Instructor's assistant class could utilize contest items on their Pokemon/ pokeballs when tossing them out onto the field to make them different from other classes other than usual Pokemon, and maybe Pokemon that are representative of beauty, cool, smart and the rest.

It's a bit hard to pin the girl down to a specific genre and it's very mood/moment based. But as per my own experience with people's feedback on said music tastes, I imagine people find her taste in music much more...strange but also interesting than first expected. They expected some brat just listening to hard edgy rock and metal non-stop and got met with something very different that they find hard to put to words.

I’m a bit lazy so Alex pretty much just listens to anything that I do, mostly extreme metal from the 90s to the present day. Our favorite bands are going to show up in the soundtrack. I’m planning on having episodes of Alex’s life from 10 years old to 22 years old, and the music will start out in the 90s and will progress forward in time from there, with a few exceptions such as the cover of Mexican Radio by Celtic Frost showing up in Act 5. This is how I’m planning to go about it:

Hubert/Sam likes 80s industrial. Which, if you know what that sounds like, is pretty weird.
Edward Haynes, the proposed deuteragonist of Act 4, listens to indie rock.
Trevor, one of the five leaders of Terrorfive, listens to nu-metal. Unironically. He’s kind of like Unovan Gladion but he dresses like a normal person.

Honestly, Koa doesn’t know much music. He likes whatever they play at ceremonies, traditional Alolan music. But through sparse use of the internet, he’s heard some butt rock here and there. Think Crush 40. He’s also heard some power metal here and there. Generally, he and his team listen to music sometimes while they train, almost as if they all tried to pump themselves in a Rocky-esque montage.

If he had a wider understanding of pop culture he’d be into the equivalents of Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac or even prog rock bands like Pink Floyd and Genesis. But he’s not quite there yet.

I am indeed the Audino autist. I must have glossed over your first asking about it, sorry about that. It's a bit of a long-winded explanation delving into my headcanons, so please bear with me.

In my headcanon, hybrid Pokemon could originally be made by breeding down species traits over time by continually breeding Pokemon of the same species and gender combination together. (So if you breed, say, male Marill and female Pikachu over many successive generations, you'll start to get Marill traits in your Pikachus.) More recently, direct genetic modification and splicing have become more commonplace in parts of the world (originally the criminal underworld, but increasingly more in legal corporate laboratories).
One such company involved in modifying Pokemon released a tool that basically turns gene-editing into a programming language, and can check for flaws in the "code" and lifetime viability of the resulting Pokemon internally. (This, in turn, massively reduces the loss of life in trying to make a viable embryo and streamlines the process as a whole.)

So Hazel gets his hands on some modified Audino - mostly artificial hybrids but also a delta species - at least one of which he realizes he himself designed with the gene-editing tool. When and how he acquires each one I'm still working on, though.

Part of why I choose story RP. Being able to absorb information and learn from direct example that I can interact with like a fucking sponge allowed me to make a massive leap in progress in the span of a year and go from certified giga shitting retard to actually passable writer that can at least appeal to people who enjoy a foil/partner of a specific niche. And I've only gotten better for 7 years after that initial 1 year leap from writing with someone who was straight up better than me.

Being able to actively write WITH someone in my opinion is the best way to learn in terms of both how to form a character (both from getting to actively trial and error your own character trait ideas and how it bounces off your writing partner), one's "prose" (how they actually structure their writing and how one fluffs their words a bit to be a more bit interesting to read than just a straight mechanical explanation of what's going on or being seen) and also just find out what kind of plots and events within a story you enjoy writing out/being along for the ride in the most. Cause you just learn lots of stuff in general on how to improve your own writing, what kind of things can still appeal to people but also be what you actually want it to be rather than just bending over backwards strictly for the tastes of others, and just what kind of scenes you enjoy writing in the most as to derive a level of FUN out of it.

I am just an inherently good writer (or well, I think so, based on my experiences). The RP stuff is just because I enjoyed RPing. I don’t know about drawing because I never bothered to begin but the one or two times I had an art class I already had more attention to detail than most other people in it.

You could try doing what I do. Just stack up enough basic details until you get something workable. What's your favorite color? That's the OC's hair color. Now figure out the contrasting color and that's their eye color. Do you have a favorite Pokemon that isn't a legendary or Ultra Beast? The first form is your OC's starter. Unsure of the rest of the team? Be a specialist for your starter's type. Hometown? Pick wherever is closest to where your starter can be found. Name? Pick any random word associated with your type. You basically already have an OC and can figure out the details using thread questions or whatever. Probably anyways. I just showed up like a week ago.

I understand the struggle, anon(s), I really do. My artistic skill has grown at a snail's pace because I feel embarrassed just looking at what I make, much less sharing it with other people. But, even though it's a crawl that's taken years, I am seeing minor improvements.
Everyone has different levels of talent, that's true. But the further you go in anything in life the more you'll hear things like "talent is cheap" - because all these things are skills that need to be developed. You may think that you were always a good writer, and you may be talented at it, but you never would have developed it into a skill if you hadn't done it for years.
And, for what it's worth, those massive walls of text we write most likely (most definitely for me) aren't done up "just like that" - they're built upon iterations of ideas developed over time that became walls of text, but started out as a sentence or two. Flashes of inspiration come and go, but time is what develops them into realized ideas.

Like others have said, start with a self-insert or build a character based on the things you yourself like, and over time tweak things little by little until they become their own character. There's no rush, just take your time and let your mind wander.

I just think most of those songs fit well enough someone who is battle focused and have the freedom and will to carve their own path. Even the Artcore ones while less expected, weren't unexpected either, as I think they align well with Emily's "more human-like" facet she displays to a select few (even if I didn't and won't see that side).
I'll admit however, that since I was at work, I couldn't turn on the volume, so I hadn't listened to the Armored Core one (all the others I have heard before, but I have yet to play Armored Core), and upon listening to it, it was certainly different from what I expected, so that one I can't really associate with any of Emily's traits that I know of.

Yeah sometimes training and fights elicit a different mood in the gremlin. And it's probably more of a song you'd hear going in her head while in some kind of constantly moving, mid-air fight or just those rare times something seems to click-- an epiphany made during a battle-- and she's just in the zone, like her own little ultra instinct where no thoughts are necessary. Since Rouka is already the Japanese name I'll go the other way. I always imagined her name keeping the R at the beginning so she'd be something like "Rachel" or "Robin". Or they could go the "have her name sound similar to jynx" route and call her "June" or "Jenny".
(Honestly I fucked up when naming her anyway. The "Rou" in Rouka is supposed to match the "rou" in Rougella, Jynx's japanese name But I realized that that Jynx's name would literally be more like "Rujera" and it kinda makes me wanna rename Rouka to "Ruka" to match.)

Considering a lot of Japanese names in the Pokemon games have actual meanings to things, Emily's would probably be 触媒, which apparently is Shokubai according to a translator. Shokubai apparently means Catalyst. Her friends and family would no doubt call her Shoku since it just sounds more normal instead though but it wouldn't be far off the mark either since apparently a site on Japanese language tells me that Shoku means something along the lines of "Bright Sky". I haven't heard anything about actually editing genes like programs or estimating lifespans, but there are many particular genes that have been identified and can be screened for in an embryo, primarily genetic diseases. And some genes can be targeted for activation, or at least consistently bred for, as in the case of flies with mutations like legs for antennae or double-thoraxes. (If you're interested and have some time to kill, look up "Hox gene" on Wikipedia.)

That is an interesting question. I chose "Hazel" as it was the name of both a color (something of a theme I'm rolling with for prospective Pokemon OCs) and a tree, giving it a kind of Pokemon Professor-y vibe. The direct translation of "hazel" (as in the tree or hazelnut) is "hashibami," though that sounds more like a surname. Maybe reverse his English name to get something like "Midori Hashibami"?

That's that for the location information. As for how this pertains to my OC, I'm pretty sure this is where they would catch their Sableye. Unsure if it would have been intentional or not, but Newton is fond of cooking and likely would have wanted to check this spot out after leaving home since it's relatively close by. There's salt, crystals, and Pokemon doing cookouts in the middle of nowhere. Probably sounded pretty fun for him.

For what it's worth, I think a lot of the trouble comes from people seeing the finished result and not much of the planning or work that goes into the end result. Ever since I started teaching myself with the tablet, I realized that my best handiwork comes from drawing something, and then drawing OVER that first draft to smooth out lines that I didn't even realize needed to be touched up until I saw the before-and-after. I was always of the idea that I worked hard enough the first time around, so willingly doing it all over again was not a thought that would have occurred to me before now.

I've had a massive writers block for fucking years due to my own expectations for myself. I USED to be *okay* at writing, objectively speaking. Right now I'm kinda dogshit (biased as fucked). This thread is main reason I've managed to write more, because it's a really low stakes environment (emotionally for me) that I can just be cringe in, mess up prose, have half-baked ideas and just share them in a way I couldn't let myself be when writing an original work. Having that space, that freedom, has meant the world to me. Really let me get my muse, and now I cam use that momentum towards actually improving as a writer so when I eventually have to face my expectations again I'll feel way more confident and less uncomfortable. It's easier to go the mile when you've already walked a few feet, right?

Let yourself breathe. At the end of the day, this is just a playground for people who want to create stuff. But in that same vein, children learn a lot at the playground. They develop a better grasp of themselves and what they can do, interact with other children, and all the while just having fun and not worrying about it.

I think Silas would be super interested in traveling to and learning more about Furia. It wouldn't be unlikely that he might cross Orchis given the grandness of the stage and matches? Where are the performances held?
I can for sure see Volbeat taking a center stage roll if there was one to take, he’s just a goofy lil’ guy. But, Silas would prefer to work behind the scenes working with his hands. Spotlight isn’t for him.

I'm trying to edit the grid map of the Taysha Region a bit. White cloud overlay. Or green. Really depends on the mood you want to set. Green implies the surrounding land is verdant, and might also be used to indicate the land is wild and untamed by the constructs of man, while brown might imply it's barren or mountainous. What will your character gain out of doing whatever they are doing? Does that affect the people (and their Pokemon) and the setting around them? And so on. This, in turn, usually tends to stop or at least reduce cringe. A lot of cringe, in my opinion, comes from disconnect between elements, events, etc. Biggest examples are characters that are really powerful for no reason (e.x a ten year old that can beat a Champion without any meaningful development of their skills) and/or characters that have powers that are contrary to the setting (e.x a little girl that can take down several grown men in a fight).

Orchis is just present-day Paldean OC. I dunno how he'd run into Silas, maybe through his dayjob instead of his performances? Either way he's pretty sociable and would want to make friends with any interesting person he comes across.
Orchis is an assistant for the Naranja Academy Teachers first and a performer second. It's a hobby of his that's just happen to have caught on, and he's never been particularly picky about what kind of stage he's on.
Like I mentioned before, the top level of his performances are like exhibition matches with Gym Leaders and Elite Four. My idea was that at some point before the S/S MC comes around he had done a circuit around all the Gyms, culminating in the MysteryNibba/Kingu vs Geeta/Larry doubles match. It wasn't intentional on his part; up until then his biggest matches were with like random Ace Trainers for fun. He just happened to propose the idea of a performance to Iono, who saw a exciting opportunity for strumming up hype.
But at his core though, Orchis is just a chuuni kid. He's the type who'd go to preschools to entertain the kids there with a mock battle acting as a "super duper evil bad guy." Like a sentai villian.
The goal in both sides of the spectrum, in the end, is to just put on a fun show to anyone and everyone. Whether it takes the form of "put on a mask and act comically evil to kids" or "a wrestling-style scripted match with another trainer in the courtyard" or even a "all-out battle with two of the strongest trainers in the region on a grand stage"
So honestly there's a lot of variety of his performances. It'd be typical of me to involve Silas and Volbeat in the upper half of the spectrum but I also think it'd be fun to rope him into the lower end too.

Oh that's super cool, but no I am not. Not anywhere close but I need to get on that. I might try to do that in order to fix a couple spots. I most like the progression from R1 to R11 since I imagine Surf becoming available somewhere around T7 allowing one to backtrack and continue up, but I hate the distribution of the R12 and R13 blocks, and some of the other Northern routes are messy.

If it were me, and I am very biased, I wouldn't bother with more than Mega. All this "new gimmick every gen" shit is gay enough as it is and they should just be expanding upon Mega Evolution but that would take actual designer and lore writer effort on GF's part and god knows they don't wanna do that.

I dunno, just figured I'd ask since everything since Kalos has a regional gimmick: Friendship Super Forms, Super Move Dances, Radiation Kaiju Forms, Faberge Egg Type Changes. If that sort of thing would help the region feel more well rounded I'd go for it but I don't have any ideas right now.

Honestly, I like Mega Evolution, but I can see why they moved away from it in favor of more universal gimmicks. Since all Mega Evolutions were only for fully-evolved Pokemon, it meant that any two-stage or single-stage Pokemon that got them would never be able to have an(other) evolution designed for them - if Duraludon had a Mega Evolution, we would have never gotten Archaludon, for example.
Similar thing is happening with regional forms. They're probably going to end up completely supplanted by "convergent species" because convergent Pokemon can appear in other, future regions without a flimsy excuse just like any other Pokemon, because they aren't inherently identified as being region-specific.
Sucks, but it is what it is I suppose.

Mega could be available to Pokemon that just straight up don't evolve though. Mawile literally exists. And that means even Pokemon who only evolve once could do it too in their fully evolved form. No one should be trying to use a gimmick with a pre-evolved Pokemon like a baby pokemon or a Wartortle or something anyway.

That's exactly what I mean, though. Because of how they designed Mega Evolution being for fully-evolved Pokemon, any Pokemon that gets one essentially cannot be given a normal evolution without breaking the convention they established. Mawile will never get an evolution, because having a Mega establishes that its fully evolved. In a sense, giving a Pokemon a Mega Evolution limits what they can potentially do in the future with that evolution line (or potential evolution line, as the case may be). If the gimmick is universal and can be used on/by any Pokemon, they don't have to worry about having potentially shot themselves in the foot later if someone gets inspiration for a new evolution.

jokes aside if i did wanna give em legit jp names bibi's would be something like kira. the logic behind that is that i chose bibi in the first place simply because i thought a silly sounding name suited a silly looking character and it was my favorite llsif sub unit back in the day. kira can mean "to sparkle" but the joke is that when jp parents give their kids weird nonsensically written names it's referred to as "kira kira" naming. plus she uses terastallization which is indeed, sparkly.

gaku is the only masculine, music related name i know so that works for alto. alternatively i think the name kanato can also be written out with kanji that mean "musical instrument" and "to fly" which also suits him quite well but my knowledge of the script is literal kindergarten level so grain of salt

tesoros a little nightmare as always because while kin (for gold) and taka (for precious) crop up in a lot of names, i don't like the sound of a lot of them. in all honesty i kind of like tenn or amagi as they allude to heaven. he likes ghost types, has sky high ambitions, and i would do a lot to imply he's a reincarnation of one of paldeas ancient kings so it works in a weird way
