I have not played a new region game since XY, did I miss out on anything or can I just go back to only playing the B-team games?

If you like a good story, I'd highly recommend playing SM (only SM, not USUM) and SV. SM is what revived my love for the franchise, and SV is a technical shit show but the story is sovl. But if you're the type who never cared for the story and just wanted to battle or catch 'em all, then there's probably not a lot you're missing out on.

in terms of the new region games i.e. SM, SwSh, SV, these games cannot go toe to toe with PLA but I would say you gain something out of playing all of them.
Even SwSh which people treat like the Sonic 06 of Pokemon is really just mediocre.
