>>55571614I liked Reborn's setting where most of the game took place in various parts of one big city. But I really, REALLY hated a lot of the characters in it, particularly Cain and roughly half the gym leaders. They shouldn't have had the writer(s)'s OCs all shoved in there like that, as it made the story all discordant and sloppy.
When I played the game like 4 years or so ago, a good chunk of my favorite mons were left out of the game intentionally because the devs deemed them as "too good" for the players to own at the time. Maybe that's changed since then, though. That being said, I DID enjoy a number of the unique mon encounters in the game. One example I found fun was a warehouse where you played a minigame to catch a Spoink early in the game.
The field effects were a refreshing change when they served as equal footing for both the player and the foes... which they don't, since they're almost always VERY heavily skewed in favor of the enemy mons. It's only fun when it can benefit both the player and the opponents in equal measure.
Also, a Pokémon game doesn't NEED gyms to be fun and engaging. And if they do, there's absolutely no need for the first gym to have a full 6-mon team with perfect IVs and EVs. Maybe have the numbers incrementally increase with gym 1 having 3 mons, gym 2 having 4 mons, gym 3 having 5 mons, etc. would have been better. A lot of the pieces it needs to be a fun and engaging experience are there, but the armor's still got a lot of chinks in it.
