Unova was the first region that felt more like a theme park than an actual place, and had cutscenes out the ass and a shitty anime story. I don't really get why BW is considered so different than what came after. they would have made the switch to 3D regardless, which is why the games have gone downhill technically, GF clearly just doesn't have the competence to develop on that scale, I don't think it has anything to do with them "giving up".
I guess if anything gen 6 might have had more original pokemon and not leaned on megas, but even then I'm doubtful. it was only a matter of time before the well ran dry and old designs were revisited.
I feel like the path they went down was pretty well inevitable, it mostly has to do with trying to adapt to new hardware in subsequent generations. had they stayed 2D, the games probably would have continued to be more like BW, but I really doubt the decision to go 3D had anything to do with BW's reception.
>>55647372 this might be the only major change, and if we had gotten gen 5 hoenn remakes we might have gotten Z, so who knows what that would look like. but I'm not sure if a hoenn remake was really necessary at all, RSE aged well and BW2 are probably a bigger net gain for the series
