I was warned by a friend who played this a while ago there's something missable coming up if I don't keep Aipom in my party, so I put the Aipom from the Battle Frontier section in my empty teamslot for now.

The game has economic theory commentary as written by someone who read a synopsis on the communist manifesto for a high school book report. It's almost hilarious how heavy handed and out of place it is in the context of a pokemon game.
I have half a mind to effortpost and take 2 examples of political commentary in fangames recently, one well handled, one laughably handled and go into depth for any shartcord lurkers here about why most normal people hate their attempts to reference real world issues in their fangames because they neglect to consider the actual values of the characters in question in a believable way for their setting.

It is unfortunately a recurring theme in fangames made by the same discord circle of developers and not just a one-off novelty, although the game that ocern is playing is by far the most heavy-handed about it so far.

to me i feel like fire ash's biggest weakness is that there isn't a what if feature outside of the hoenn section which is the worse in the game to me.

Ash gray was soulful because at the league you could prove you made better choices then ash and actually beat ritchie and then go on to the face and even maybe win the pokemon league.

As someone who sugguested some things for the game I don't hate it but it does get boring lol. Fire Ash has everything though get ready to see gimmicks after Unova it's gonna be fun also you can change your and a pikachu's clothes in ash's room whenever you want.

Make the league like Ash gray and actually make the players lose to see if they could place higher than Ash's in al the other leagues.

If the game did that I'd say even with all its faults this could be a solid experience not that i hate the game though still like what they did.

So far yeah, but the rhetoric and dialogue from all the trainers involved makes it really clear which side the author wanted the player to take. I'm fully expecting the author to punish the player down the road for siding with the capitalists in some subtle way on future decision points.

This game would've been so much better if during each League conference after you reach the point where you're supposed to lose, you can keep going and win but every trainer past there has increasingly optimized 6x31 IV teams+held items+optimal EV spreads and natures while also being 10+ levels higher than you. If you're good at the game, you'd be able to push through, but the difficulty spike coupled with the fact you only get 1 shot means that most players would wipe as per canon.

Maybe just tweak some dialogue but thats it.

Ash gray went all the way out if you beat the league you got to face off against the elite four of kanto and then the champion of the region.

There's no reason the game couldn't have done that sense the alola league is a scripted win anyway.

Hell most players would lose to the elite four just justify them being hard by making all their mons in the level 70s ugh makes me actually wanna make a mod for this game if i get the time ever

Lots of big open rectangular areas with nothing in them and little to no detailing prevalent in especially Kanto and Johto. The "dungeons" are also often snaking paths around a map with little to no actual puzzles or navigational challenges. A lot of the gyms have been stripped of their mechanics as well. It gets a bit better in Hoenn, except for the part they just straight up copypaste Johto's Ice Path, and Sinnoh has been an even bigger improvement so far, see picrel. Basically in the earlygame the developer didn't really seem to know what made map design interesting and never went back to polish or refurbish the old maps and it really shows.

Even the most basic pretenses of a party system would dramatically improve this game. Imagine if they went the extra mile and let them follow you and you can initiate conversation with them which changes depending on the current event flags+random selection?

Even if the dev didnt want to do stuff like them following you and optional conversations after each event, something simple like the characters popping out of ash's sprite like smrpg everytime a cutscene happens would at least feel more soulful and would give more of an anime-feel to the fangame rather than just "pokemon: the anime but its a soulless copy of the anime's events"

I'm really tempted to do a big effortpost about why this game's implmentation of politics is so fucking stupid in contrast to another fangame that did it well. Even if the scene were more animated, the dialogue itself doesn't actually do anything telling what the characters prioritize as their core values except for the obvious authorial mouthpiece.

Prinplup evolved into Empoleon after that fight. Unfortunately my Empoleon is autistic and has an -SpAtk nature so I'm giving them a Swords Dance Aqua Jet physical setup. They shouldn't have trouble finding room to set up with their good bulk. I end up making it to Veilstone as well.

I set up Curse while Meditite opts to give me a free turn with Detect. I decide there's no harm in setting up another Curse since I'm buffed up and can probably take a surprise Ice Punch from full health. Luckily she opts to use a useless Drain Punch instead. I beat the third gym leader, however the side gym leader has a Mega Lucario that one hit KOs all my pokemon. Due to the lack of level up trainers I will stop my playthrough here.
One very annoying part of the third gym was the puzzle, it was a memorization puzzle with the screen blinking lights. I have attached a video of it here. Seizure warning before hand.

For my review of Pokemon Academia. I believe it has the makings of an entertaining game (whether good or bad). I liked how the devs weren't shy to give you strong pokemon early and how the difficulty was balanced. I didn't like the flashing lights in the third gym.

Crasher Wake's old gym puzzle is gone to the surprise of nobody. However, I'm pleasantly surprised that the author at least attempted to replace it with another puzzle. This time around, the trainers in the water will carry you to other islands in the gym after you defeat them. It is effectively the same thing as a teleport maze in a water gym, but it's both better than nothing and still flavorful.

I have sleep on the route 1 rodent I guess. Also not!CURIE from Uranium gave me a fakemon that's not!Urayne, with a move called Fission that damages Pokemon for 1/8th every turn, but also functions as a secondary status which doesn't wear off when you switch out which is pretty good and a big reason I first tried the first gym.

Intimidate even if I had it wouldn't work well because the AI is hard coded to switch every 3 turns. Which actually is a net benefit for me because of how fucking retarded that is, but I still will need better shit

First one I found was at the Indigo league. There's multiple of them and I got the second one late Hoenn iirc. I've only found one Lucky Egg the game has given me, but if you're extremely autistic you can probably farm Chanseys for them in the Safari Zone. Don't bother autism grinding heart scales for any reason; save your money for when you get to a pokemon league and buy hundreds of heartscales for a comically low price from Team Rocket's scam stall and you'll never have to worry about them again.
I'm getting a tremendous amount of milage out of Bulk Up sets so make sure you don't miss the TM for it in Mt Moon.
Also once you get a held item worth keeping, save often. There's something fucky with the code that's supposed to return items to you after battle if they change ownership and sometimes a mon hits you with Knock Off or Thief and it's just gone forever. I'm pretty sure this isn't intentional on the dev's part given how inconsistent it is, but it's annoying nonetheless.

Because of how pokemon stat math works, you're through the worst of it. N+5 has the sharpest differences with low values of N, so realistically the game will get easier as you go if this is how the whole game is set up.

you have to solve some weird puzzle in this room, where you have to combine 3 chemicals to produce a solution that can kill the giant pulsating cocoon in the corner
it's pretty badly done, but basically you have to figure that two of the elements can't react with anything else except purple, and the solution is orange green purple (also, if you mess up, you have to manually put the chemicals back, they don't just get cleared from your inventory automatically, nice design)

I start with Mandibuzz and Toxic Torterra while he misses a Stone Edge. He inexplicably tries not to try again and uses Giga Drain while I chunk him with Brave Bird. I anticipate the Stone Edge and Roost to remove my flying type the next turn. He falls to Foul Play and Paul sends out Weavile. I'm healthy enough to risk it so I fire off a Toxic after he wiffs Blizzard. I don't know why he's using special moves on Weavile, but that makes this matchup pretty free. He chips me with Metal Claw and I roost off the damage and stall him out. Mandibuzz also beats Magmortar but is poisoned by Smog and suffers a speed drop from Rock Tomb in the process so I switch to Pupitar when Electabuzz is sent out. Electabuzz wastes turns with Protect and Light screen while I boost and demolish the rest of his team.

Well, alternatively, maybe this story is meant to be like, you were supposed to be the underdog where you keep losing like a cuck to your rival until you eventually overcome him in the final fight? Of course, since this is a game and not a fanfic where the main writer can force the mc to lose every battle against the rival, you can defeat the rival early, so the dev makes it so that the rival is hard as fuck to beat, so essentially: if you win then the rival is a kieran momento but if you lose you'd be following the intended path that the dev wants you to take
