I agree though. It's probably the most prominent levitating mon that doesn't. Would give it a nice alternative to Magnet Pull. I guess we'd replace Sturdy in this scenario?

Real talk, I wish that Pokemon could have both a passive ability and an active ability. Things like Levitate, Light/Heavy Metal, or Truant that are just intrinsic qualities the Pokemon have would be passive abilities, whereas things that get activated under certain conditions like Chlorophyll or Guts would be active. That way you can have things like Magnezone, which is clearly floating in midair, have both Levitate as a passive and Sturdy as an active.

I was about to give Claydol some generic Psychic ability but Well-Baked body is fucking perfect thematically, also giving it an alternative immunity for mind games.
Psychic Surge seems so natural on a Psychic/Ground Pokemon.

Yes, since this allows it to feel more distinct from other Steel/Electric types that may exist.

Also Vital Spirit should give more immunities but in exchange make you vulnerable to Poison

I don't think Levitate Pokemon except Rotom-Fan should lose Levitate. Rotom Fan should get an ability that activates Tailwind after 2 turns.

surprised nobody has talked about this guy, like, at all.

..I mean, I get why, dude has like, nothing creative going for him. Strong jaw has no uses cause it gets zero biting moves outside of crunch and bite, Seed sower maybe, but it doesn't really put seeds down at all. It could get the boring sun options, but it's pokedex entries say nothing about sunshine, if anything outside of it clinging to trees, having sweet smelling saliva, and scranning pokemon whole. I GUESS you could go for Tangling Hairs or Mimicry, but those kinda are weird options, too..

But you're right, nothing really interesting going for him. I'd guess it'll probably want a signature ability that makes it good against Bug-types, but that's fanciful territory.

I'd give Misdreavus/Mismagius either Shadow Tag (kinda to spite Gengar, lol) or Magic Guard due to their tie-ins to magic/charmcasting.
Perhaps give Cresselia a "Good Dreams" ability that's the opposite from Darkrai's, healing asleep Pokémon.
A simple one: Eelektross having Swift Swim. It's stated they live in the ocean, so they must be good swimmers, right? Also because it could give an offensive virtue to it by dropping its immunity.

somebody once suggested that Levitate should be removed and instead any non Flying type pokemon capable of flight or levitation are hard coded to have partial Ground immunity. they can be immune to certain moves like Earthquake and Fissure but still hit Bonemerang and Mud Shot for example

It's an unfortunate side-effect of damn near everything being able to learn Earthquake. What should be an Achilles Heel for an otherwise very tanky Pokemon becomes a crippling weakness that keeps it from doing its job. I think Magnezone would be fine if EQ got reined in the same way Toxic was.

Claydol's only selling point is resisting the trio of Fighting/Ground/Rock. It would need something really big to make up for losing that.
