I got the impression that Kunihiko Yuyama was trying to use Pokemon as a metaphor for the innate psychological characteristics that a person possesses in this movie, which is a new take, very fresh, compared to the ashnime's Shudo's vision (well as I see it) that Pokemon are new concepts of knowledge that people apply in their lives
