Same reason they had Dan Green do different for Yugi and Atem.
Ash's mannerisms changed to indicate that he was only being possessed by another person and not actually corrupted which avoids having to answer any uncomfortably moral questions about culpability.
But that doesn't translate well into English so they needed a different way to signal that this was a completely different person.

I have no clue. There was all this marketing around the hero from My Hero Academia going through an edgy phase and everyone was saying he became a vigilante and then you read it and he wasn't being edgy at all he was just working so hard he forgot to bathe. Ash is voiced by Bakura?
I only know that Bakura has a female voice in Duel Monsters and Yugi a male voice while Bakura had a male voice in the Toei anime and Yugi a female voice in that anime, the voice of Shinji Ikari and Sailor Uranus Megumi Obata.

Yeah, Matsumoto voiced Bakura starting from the Battle City arc because his VA from Duelist Kingdom died. As much as I like her take on Bakura, her voice didn't really sound right coming out of Thief King Bakura.
