It was such a bizarre choice to make E4 battle music the same as normal trainer one when you could have used the gym leader one at the very least.

It was kind of soulful how Lance had the gym leader music, it's a nice way to relisten to both themes when you've beaten every other trainer/gym leader in the game but also establishes a power hierarchy just from audio cues alone

you know when you put it like that it makes a lot of sense
since the e4 are the only rematchable trainers in the entire game you'd want to make use of all the battle themes for trainers

Only the first 3 of E4 use the normal trainer music. The last one actually uses the gym leader music.

The point is that Lance is the final battle, making his more special.
Of course, there was an extra battle since dickface beat us to the punch but we would've been a champion if he didn't.
