>>55812192Depends, older players like me mostly dropped the series by that point due to growing up, gen 4 wasn't hated as much as it was "eh, it's more of the same" and it didn't help Diamond and Pearl had a lot of faults, small dex, barely any new Pokemon, a lot of the new designs being pretty meh to downright bad, 2 whole Fire types in the region counting with the starter, games were really slow and the plot was gen 3's plot but even dumber.
On the other side of the discussion you have younger players who grew up with the DS and practically worship gen 4, which occasionally causes these kids to lash out against anyone who criticizes it, I suppose I can't fault people for being very nostalgic for their favorite games. Ignoring the issues the generation had. I think the verdict was that it was mostly seen fairly positively but with some issues. The real big schisms started with gen 5.
