>>55825179Hard to say. The nostalgia factor is a huge thing so obviously I would want actual pokemon to do this, but they will never get it right. It'll always be bare bones. I think the monster design would have to be really good and it would need to be not very intimidating to get into the game itself. They couldn't make it as complex as modern pokemon from the jump. Pokemon has built on their battle system over decades gradually and now it is literally chess but also poker. Competitively at least. There is a TON of knowledge involved in playing even the story of a modern pokemon game. Yes, you can play it fine with zero knowledge, it is designed for 5 year olds and now they even tell you your type effectiveness after you use the move on that type. BUT the absolutely mountain of latent knowledge in our heads about this universe and battle mechanics is staggering. Think about it for a minute. 18 types, hundreds of combinations exist, you have that shit memorized already. Physcial and special, you probably have move power and category memorized. You even have a rough idea of pokemon base stats most likely. You may know abilities and how they interact, weather mechanics, generational gimmicks, I could go on and on.
If someone wants to step up they have to do two things:
1) Go above and beyond what modern pokemon does in terms of world detail
2) Strike a perfect balance between mechanical density and ease of entry
Sounds like a tall order.
