>>55936698Nah, Scarlet was the first pokemon game I played since Black and White. And I thought it was awful. Played through it with my buddy playing violet who convinced me to play it with him (he also hadn't played a Pokémon game in a while). After we finished playing he actually apologized to me because he felt bad he convinced me to buy the game because it was so bad, not talking about performance either.
Fast forward a bit and it did get me back into Pokémon and I've gone back and played BW2, XY, USUM, Let's Go, SwSh, and even BDSP and they've all been pretty good. Even BDSP isn't that bad, it's just not Platinum.
But it really got me thinking maybe I misjudged SV after playing through the evolution of the games, I decided to pick up Violet for myself to get the other exclusives and start some shiny hunting since you could see them in the overworld.
But..... I've just finished the second gym and I already regret it. They really are awful. The story is infuriating with how it gives you options to say no, but then either blatantly ignores that you said no and continues as of you said yes or it resets you before the decision and you have to pick yes to continue. It literally presents you a choice and then spits in your face of you don't choose the one they want.
The open world is open, you can find your way almost anywhere but there's no point since everything is level locked, so unless you just grind out levels to be overleveled you have to do everything in a specific order anyway.
All the Pokémon being in the overworld with constant mass outbreaks is just dumb. None of the placement makes any sense, they all act the same, it's dumb.
Team Star is even somehow dumber than Team Yell, and that's actually impressive that they did that so badly.
The graphics are a downgrade somehow. I mean the list goes on and on. The real disappointment is there are a lot of cool ideas here, but the execution is so awful that they're kind of lost.
