>>56229593Any of them are fine to start with. They're all a bit slow to start with but once you get access to stronger and more diverse Pokemon( which takes more than 20 min unless your speedtroon), things start to open up. Keep in mind that Gens 2 and 3 was pre-physical/special split, so moves are classified as Physical or Special based on their typing (ex. all Fire-type moves are Special, even Fire Punch).
>GSCPolished sequals to Gen 1, you don't need to have played RBY to get what's going on.
>FRLGBasically RBY with Gen 2&3 improvements.
>RSE or ORASEmerald is the better game, in my opinion, but ORAS is probably easier for a new player to get into.
>PlatinumDon't bother with Diamond or Pearl.
>HGSSGen 2 remakes, basically to GSC what FRLG was to RBY.
>BW/BW2Pick this one if you want something approaching "adequate" in terms of story. Compared to other RPG's, Pokemon stories have historically never been much good, but Gamefreak actually tried with Gen V. Also brought QoL features like Infinite TM's. If you end up liking them, then try BW2, just pick the version that matches the one you played (so if you played Black, get Black 2).
>XYFirst 3D mainlines, very easy and gives OP Pokemon early. A new player will probably enjoy them.
>SMStory is about as good as Gen 5, but has cutscenes out the ass and a tutorial that lasts way too long. It's also the newest non-switch Pokemon game so it has the most QoL improvements. USUM is "better" overall, but has a worse story and doesn't do enough to make it stand out from the base versions, so just stick to Sun and Moon
