100% routes over open areas. SwSh and SV have shown that Game Freak just sucks ass at open world design. Each time, they make a big flat open area and just plop pokemon down that wander around aimlessly in circles. Pic related as an example; just look at all the stuff just milling around without a care in the background here.
What everyone wants from "open world" pokemon is something akin to Pokemon Snap. They want to see bug pokemon crawling on trees, bird pokemon flying to roost in the canopies, water pokemon under the surface of a pond or swimming up a river, and caves with crevices and rubble where pokemon hide in the darkness. SwSh and SV have the regional placement correct (water pokemon are found in or near water, for example) but they stop there. Bug pokemon, water pokemon, flying pokemon, and everything else just all wander around in circles doing nothing. People want to stumble upon a sudowoodo posing in a forest where it actually looks camouflaged, a slowpoke fishing with its tail, or a tinkatink collecting iron scraps in a cave. As long as Game Freak insists on having these massive open maps, I don't think they will ever do anything even remotely resembling this. They should reduce the scope and create routes that are dense with pokemon and other things to do.
>>56764685>just have regions of 200 again with another 300-400 being transfer onlyCompletely agree.
>>56767566Poco Path is the best area in all of SV for the above reasons. It's one of the only areas where you see things like tarountula in the trees. It's obvious they put way more effort into it than anything else in the game. Which makes sense, with it being the first impression a player gets.
