He wasn't working with GameFreak anymore. They gave literal animation contractors who weren't well suited to making a mainline game and had only made 2 "games" prior the task of making a Pokemon remake. A director does not make a game alone.

All of the games you listed were generally the best selling Nintendo games at their times of release, outselling the likes of their contemporary counterparts from Zelda, Smash, Animal Crossing, and even most Mario games. Gen 2 sold more than any GB or N64 game from those franchises, gen 3 did the same vs other GBA and GC games, gens 4 and 5 did the same against everything that wasn't New Super Mario Bros or Mario Kart.
In an era where Nintendo has seen unprecedented growth, Pokemon is somehow lagging behind all those series it used to crush. Both SwSh and SV sold less than Mario Odyssey, BotW, Smash Ultimate, and New Horizons. So what exactly was "cured" here?

XY largely sucking was because Ohmori took over halfway through development, all the ambitious ideas from the early XY betas died with Masuda leaving. Ohmori himself as we came to find out via the Teraleak admitted he couldn't be arsed to design gym leaders or fights for XY and the pedo faggot didn't add Megas to a single gym leader team in the game and somehow still bitched that Megas not being used in important trainer teams was a problem despite it being his very own ineptitude that made it so, the faggot also fucked up gyms so badly in XY that he wanted to try and get rid of gyms by gen 7, which he also failed due to how much the trials sucked, which convinced him he fucked up yet again and had to try and go out with gym presentation in gen 8, gens 6 through 9 sucking so much dick was entirely Ohmori's fault outside of BDSP and LGPE, which were the last projects Masuda was involved with.
We had several generations of Gamefreak running around like idiots without any idea of what the fuck they were doing while being led by a complete fucking retard in Ohmori who didn't understand jack fucking shit and who wanted to shove gimmicks out the door instead of focusing on the one people (contrarians not withstanding) actually liked in Megas. He kept pussifying and simplifying outlined concepts because everything has to be family dramas and sob stories with this faggot, there's truly no one evil in Ohmori's games because hmmmm......T-THERE JUST ISN'T OKAY?!
I am not defending Masuda with this shit, his games had a large issue of repetition and people always preferred the third versions because those put actual polish over the rushed jobs Masuda did, Masuda also got Pedohmori out of prison to be his bitch, so he's inherently responsible for shit going sideways even after he left, Masuda is at least the reason we even had Pokemon past gen 1, so for that I commend him at least.

BW's regional dex was, in fact, a great idea. It just suffered from the unluckiest possible timing with '90s nostalgia becoming a fad, genwunners deciding they liked Pokemon again and throwing a huge shitfit upon discovering that the series had changed since 1998.
Masuda was shitcanned during XY's development, so it's difficult to say how much of the final product actually reflected his original vision for the game.
Legpiss and BDSP were throwaway projects that didn't require much directing at all. This is likely why they saddled Masuda with those. He wouldn't have had much of an opening to hurt the developers' precious feefees when most of the work had been done already.
From the info we've learned from the leaks as well as just looking at the current quality of the franchise, it's obvious that GF did Masuda dirty. He wasn't flawless by any stretch of the imagination, but he was seemingly the only one there who didn't either actively resent Pokemon or only view it as a cash cow. It's not a coincidence that the post-Masuda games have been a steaming pile.

I liked BDSP's battle tower and gym leader rematches. Putting pokemon in underground was a nice idea. Im also glad they finally actually decided to give trainers items, abilities and good movesets even if it was destroyed by the friendship mechanic that was unable to be turned off. Exp Share is fine. It does suck that the game was piss easy until the league but still exp share isnt a problem

That how game freak has alway been. It just wasn’t notable in early gens because the tech was fairly simple and the videogame industry as a whole hadn’t evolved much outside of a few big names. Even back in Gen 1 just barely manages to squeeze something out of their bungholes, and despite the actual game play being rudimentary at best, they somehow managed to hit lightning in a bottle with the monster designs implemented of the collecting concept while being hard carried by the immense marketing campaign that game along with the games.
They were already self destructing by Gen 2 development to the point were Tajiri fucked off, either due to his own laziness or not being able to put up with the utter retardation he was surrounded with. Masuda had to step up and tard wrangle everyone but at that point they has shat the bed so badly that Iwata had to come done from the CEO chair and carry their asses. Which would explain why they hate certain Johtomons so fucking much, they’re taking out their self inflicted frustrations about Gen 2 being the first time Masuda cracked the whip and it being a permanent reminder of Iwata making them all look like retarded bums.

The Unovan dex sucks, there's very few actually appealing or cool Pokemon early in the game, worst early route rodent, worst regional bird by far, nobody likes the elemental monkeys, I like Lillipup's line but it's not the most interesting Pokemon out there either. The good parts of the dex are way later into the game, the Unovan Bugs are all pretty cool, but Venipede and Whirlipede are pretty shit early on, Leavanny is cute but it's doomed with one of the worst types in the game. And to make things worse a lot of Unovan Pokemon are rehashes of previous Pokemon. Unova has plenty of issues, that is very apparent, you make a retarded argument about "le hecking Kanto mons", but people didn't complain as much back in the day about the Hoenn dex despite it also being severely lacking, although not devoid of, earlier generation Pokemon, that's because the Hoenn dex despite having issues has a lot of very solid designs in general, even the most mediocre earlier gen Pokemon are leagues better than literal trash, ice cream and gears, nobody besides irony poisoned retards like Garbodor, Klinklang or Vanilluxe, meanwhile I've seen plenty of people both old and new who love mons like Muk and Magnemite, compare Vanillite to Snorunt and it becomes very quickly apparent which is the better design, hell, even Cryogonal, another gen 5 Pokemon, is far superior to the ugly piece of crap that is Vanilluxe, and therein lies another issue with Unova, EVERYTHING EVOLVES FAR TOO FUCKING LATE. There hasn't been a singular fucking region before it where half the fucking dex evolves at level fucking 50, at the literal end of the game, you want a Hydreigon? Too bad. You want a Braviary or Mandibuzz? Too bad. You want a Mienshao? Too bad. You want a Bisharp? Too bad. You want a Volcarona? Too fucking bad kid. You zoomers keep bringing up retarded arguments and made up boogeymen.
