>>45956709There's different staples around the world, but generally any form of carb can substitute rice. Potatoes are preferred in a lot of the West, but others include bread or pasta/noodles, and noodles are also pretty common as a different staple. I like both as a hafu, but I think generally potatoes are superior both in nutrition and taste, while rice is really good in terms of yield for feeding lots of people. That being said, rice and potatoes both have their culinary applications, like you porridge/congee and risotto with rice, and many forms of dessert like sticky rice, mochi, mango sticky rice, rice pudding, horchata etc. Potatoes have a ton of options too, and I generally think potato based alcohol is better than rice based alcohol.
