While it's purely driven by greed, it does present more opportunities and rewards (badges, emotes, titles, other superficial shit) to incentivize people to support their streamer, and by extension twitch.
I'm not 100% sure on Youtube's cut for Superchats, but if you wanted to give a streamer 50 bucks you'd be spending 65, assuming you do it through twitch's currency system and not a direct Streamlabs donation to the streamer.
