There wasn't much more he could do, but nothing else really worked out either, so he just kept going with AVGN. The only real failure was the movie flopping, but if it was a success he would move to that field and officially end AVGN years ago.
If you want a real example of losing momentum it would be Cookie Clicker. It was insanely popular during the first few months of its release, especially with Grandma being very marketable, and it would keep that momentum if orteil realized his plans of adding dungeons and scout girls, the game was already getting big even in Japan, you can imagine how adding some cute girls into the mix works wonders. He scrapped the idea tho, and the game stagnated after that. It's a shame, really.
