This is more difficult than I expected; I always like it the most when a name for a character is in some way significant to the story’s thematics, but I have to keep it plain enough to keep it relatable to the reader. I’m also torn on the decision on if the name should sound western or Japanese; I’ve heard people complaining in this thread before that being acknowledged that the character is foreign to Japan doesn’t sit well with them. At the same time, a Japanese name seems like it’s not easy for most people to relate to.
Maybe I should try some etymological variation on Harrier DuBois. Keep it faithful to the source material.
