Couple that with what I'm fairly confident is Mori's ethos with anybody else's work that isn't directly tied to her own creative process being figuratively taping it to the fridge as long she believes they tried their best (see also: Saruei daki), and you end up with a product that's honest, but wanting for more. And it's not bad. It looks really nice outside of those scenes.
