It completely strips the fun and intricacy of level design from routes, does away completely with the sense of mystique from tall grass (and Shinies, in a roundabout way) and replaces it with a flat, featureless, boring expanse of nothing. It's not like I've played these games in a decade anyway, but even watching a playthrough just makes traversing the region seem mind-numbing, compounded by the ludicrous performance issues and glitches.
