The caps they posted with their latest model got people thinking it was either Claude or NovelAI (whose models are also unrestricted). Smaller groups obviously can't make big things as fast as multitrillionaire corporations, but they'll eventually catch.
One day someone will come up with AGI, and when that day comes, even if it's a soulless evil big corpo, the floodgates will open and the technology will be out there to be reverse engineered and remade without any of the bullshit.
