Publicly stating the best alternate option lets them save face and lets them know it won't cause you disappointment in case the final decision isn't in their control. They have a manager, and sometimes managers have to make unpopular decisions for them if there's conflict with other talent. I don't think them watching it at the same time will lead to that, but you never know. Some performers can be batshit crazy and controlling divas, particularly when their status is threatened by better talent.
