They're all about a very sudden expansion in solids transforming into gas, where the gaseous things involved don't really see such a huge change in energy itself. I don't see why anything would turn into plasma, because that's supposed to be a gas itself being hyper-energized to the point it ionizes. That just doesn't happen in conventional explosions.
