A massive epiphany took away my interest from vtubers and most streamers in general. Until a month ago I used to watch them daily. It was my biggest hobby.
But there's just no closure.
The business model of all of these streams are to keep you coming back and engaged. There isn't a narrative or anything, there's no plot. There's no resolution. You're not building yourself towards anything, and I think vtubers are so effective at their job because they manipulate this to it's worst. There's the belief in idol culture that you're seeing someone improve and grow into the best person they can be. The belief you can do it with them. Maybe they hit those dopamine receptors with words of affection so you get attached with empty gratification and a lack of payoff.
I think no vtuber does it intentionally, but these practices are designed specifically to leave you unsatisfied and dependent on a story with no ending. It's a dampening tool. Unhealthy escapism. There's no end for her. There's no end for you. Just drama, mediocre gameplay, cute girl noises, merch, bad music, repeat. I realized I wasn't content. I just can't watch this stuff anymore even after having been so immersed.
