1. The world is smaller and has an end, even on a very large world. It doesn't generate endlessly.
2. Unique items and accessories are limited.
3. You're supposed to fight bosses and get stronger gear.
4. Someone new to a server will miss out on these accessories and boss fights.
5. It's all progression-based, so someone new to the server will be unable to progress naturally since early game material is damn near removed once Hard mode is activated in the world.
It does not have that kind of massive server appeal to it. It's better with a few people who work on the same goals at the same time. Minecraft is more about exploring the entire world and creating systems and buildings within it. Terraria has more of a traditional upgrade and then fight a boss kind of thing going on, but you still can make pretty stuff if you want.
