You need to target specific talents if you want to farm free memberships.
Pick someone's stream that will have less than 5k viewers. Generally it's during the superchat reading streams that you'll have more chances to get one. Be there during pre-chat. That's when there are even less people and gifters are generous.
After that it only comes to chance. Of course there are also other factors. Some talents' communities just don't like gifted membership so you'll be less likely to get one depending on who you watch
