It takes literal years to get good, there will be difficult roadbumps throughout the entire process, but what you get out of it is something I'm not entirely sure any other physical activity can match. Even at the beginner and intermediate level, you'll have fun with it once you learn to fall properly (because you'll be getting thrown, and often hard, a lot) which is actually the most useful martial arts skill you can have (because in all honesty, the average, untrained person is probably never going to try to fight you anyway).
