And yeah, it's people like him I respect the most, and want to live up to at some point in my own way, even if I know he would love me no matter what. My perspective is that if you leave the world a better place, even if it's just for one person, or a few people, it really doesn't matter what your reasons are, you are/were a force for good in the world and you have my respect. If religion is the reason that stirs a person to do it, it's fine, it just means the took the good lessons and wisdom from their beliefs and applied them. I respect people who do that much more than people who look to moralize and preach with religion in words. You know the saying "The road to hell is paved with good intentions?" Well, conversely, sometimes I don't think it matters if the intentions aren't pure if the actions end up making things better for people. Not all the time though and the degree matters. As an example, if someone does it because they want attention or admiration... Why not just give it to them as long as it doesn't make them a worse person and they end up doing more good for people in the long run?
