The famous "ant tornado" events, in which on occasion, a huge population of ants can die when they accidentally cycle their pheromone path, resulting in them endlessly running in a circle until they all die of exhaustion. Because they follow the smell path. And lay down their own. Reinforcing the circular path even stronger and attracting more ants to join in the dance.
There is a solution to it though. Because the ants are compelled to move faster when the path scent is stronger, if enough of them get cycled for long enough time, some of them will start running so fast they can't actually take the turns anymore, essentially reaching "terminal velocity" and breaking out of the circle. And as they also leave a new path behind, this will slowly start tearing more ants away from the circle, eventually breaking it.
