If you look at any numbermonkey stats site, you'll notice that the sub loss for most of the channels had plateaued at some point between the termination (on the 5th) and the black screen (on the 12th). A few of them, like Finana here, were even starting to recoup their losses.
You're right that the situation was grim either way—but Nijisanji would've at least had a CHANCE if they hadn't let the three stooges yap their reputations away.
