The game doesn't treat other guys as love interests in this case, it treats them as unironic obstacles that you should to deal with. You need to balance the relationship with other guys so they won't blow up yet not to overdo the relationship to the point of them getting better affection level than the guy you're going for. There are even some genki guys that have insane affection level that you straight up need to dumb as fast as possible, otherwise they autmoatically will lead you to their route. Basically, you need to level up one guy to love level, while keeping up other guys balanced in friendzone so they won't blow up
