The mitochondria is actually not something that is passed down genetically, it's an entirely different and distinct organism from the hosts it inhabits, genetically. It's more like a beneficial parasitoid that resides in almost life on Earth. This means that completely biologically different beings (silicon-based aliens for example) could also plausibly host this parasitoid, provided that parasitoid was seeded on their world in their evolutionary history (which I guess would require a measure of divine intervention) or developed similarly through convergent evolution. Also, in with this organelle, the connection to the heavenly realm is still done through a flavor of Vitubium (vitubium-neutrino), not the flesh itself.However, it's true that it binds catalognautness to something physical instead of leaving it purely as a spiritual construct bound to the soul.
