This picture is not exactly accurate but it gives you a good idea of what they mean. The moon as a planetoid does not make sense according to physics for many reasons including it is impossible for it to revolve around he earth and it does not revolve about its own axis. We only ever see the exact same face and we cannot verify what the moon is because we cannot penetrate the firmament nor van allen radiation belts.
