Unironically just choose two popular languages 'processional developers' use/what's popular in job listings around you (plus a database) and put a few pet projects together after working through a book, tutorial or site (libgen is your friend). I think Go is going to be a lot more popular this year so that might be worth learning since it's approachable. Python or C#/Java are decent choices too. /g/ might act elitist because you won't be writing mega optimized HolyC, but you probably won't find a job opening writing in a "hardcore" programming language without years of experience these days
