The govs have done an absolutely splendid job in assimilating the indigenous population. As you say, we recieved treaty rights to build casinos and they quickly became our biggest and most profitable source of income.
The colonists won. Me & my siblings don't know our native language, my parents barely know it/don't speak it. Things like our culture and traditions are slowly fading away from the younger generations, because their either feel like there is no point in carrying on dead traditions, or because of the general state of living most native communities are in.
I'm a full-blooded native, and I find is sad and disappointing that I have no motivation to get to know my people or their histories. The world is too fucked up right now to give a shit about the ancestors that were slaughtered decades, and centuries ago. Yes, it was horrible. Yes, there should be substantial reperations. But motherfucker I got to work a 9-5/6 days a week without missing a day cause I'll end up homeless. I don't have the time, energy, or effort to lend my voice & actions for fair treatment or reperations. I gotta survive first.
Anyways, watching VTubers takes my mind off of all of this. Cute anime girls are the cure for depression.
