>>76475020The existence of alternatives means that large corporations will continuously lose fans. Because the reddit normalfag wave that boosted them hard 4 years ago has dissipated, they are competing for a smaller pool of "actual vtuber fans". This is negated by certain talents (fauna, mumei, fuwamoco) that can get better numbers and gawr gura, whose return buffs bring back (some) of the casual redditor watchers who otherbeit don't care about vtubers thoughbeit.
This means that someone like Mint, who was the most popular female talent in Mint's cafe, will do very well but may find herself outclassed by 'heavy hitters' with more casual viewers.
The biggest point of weakness comes from the hologirls being low in terms of ambition and non-confrontational- mumei or fuwamoco would never say "I want to beat gura" or something, fuwamoco is the most ambitious and she just wants to become japanese. The long hiatuses caused by affluenza (the girls got a lot of money on debut and the first few months and are now comfy) means that holoen should logically be on their 4th gen by now, with a 5th planned for this year. This is not the case. The spacing of the generations is, ironically, undermining viewer retention by decreasing hype. Like a new toy, the viewers latch onto a new holo for a few months, then get bored and leave.
