I can see that, you need to use multiple means of verifying knowledge, personal experience is one, intuition and awareness of probable intent is another. On the more academic side, a thorough and objective survey of the information available with an eye for if it uses honest and direct communication or resorts to logical fallacies and skewing of information. It can be difficult today with how many people and organizations are devoted to lying and misrepresenting things for their own self-serving benefit but individual discernment can still prevail if one develops the faculty.
