I involuntarily pause a moment as I turn around, she is much hotter in the moonlight and my knees start to struggle, I quickly put my hand on the balcony guardrail to steady myself. The moon is sparkling off the silver buckles on her dress, my eyes wander upwards as I realize I'm obviously oggling her and I quickly shift focus to her eyes. Big. Mistake. Were her eyes always this color? The moonlight almost makes it seem like they're glowing amber. "Yeah." I barely remember what she said as I reply. "Yeah it's nice out he-" A rush of noise breaks the calm as two more people exit the (continuously raging) punk show. "Hey, there you are" it's the lead singer of the band that was playing. I glance inside at the stage, the second band has replaced the first (when did that happen?). "We were just about to head to the party, you comin with?" I sigh with relief as she shakes her head "I want to see the rest of the show" my relief doesn't last long "then we'll be right over" she smiles. The second person puts their arms around green haired girl, then glares at me. "Who's he?" she asks, she's wearing a similar outfit - a pleated miniskirt, silver chains and buckles, but has on a red striped longsleeve shirt underneath a band tee (I laugh internally, "the 2000's called, they want their clothes back"). "What are you snickering about?" she asks sharply, her long brown hair swinging in front of her face as she turns to me. "Uh, just uh...", "uhhhhh what?" as she snaps at me memories of my highschool bullies flash into my head, more early 2000's vibes. "I was watching those squirrels over there." I point to the tree and internally cringe. Why did I say that? The guy snickers and looks at the two girls instead of me as he replies. "What - you a squirrel watcher? I heard of bird watching, but ain't those things like 'rats of the trees'" he seems lost for a moment as if contemplating this new lyric. Another burst of noise accompanies my coworker exiting the bar. Thank god, I need out of this embarrassing situation. "Hey there you are anon, was looking everywhere for you inside." he pulls a cig out of a carton then offers the carton to the others on the balcony. The girls refuse, the lead singer takes two, "Thanks bud". He lights one and puts the other behind his ear. "let's go back inside" the brown haired girl pulls green hair towards the door as ciggarette smoke fills the air out on the balcony. My friend turns to me, "hey man, been looking all over for you. want to go to a party tonight? got invited to an afterparty uptown."
