That's why the line is "this is worse than anime because she's actually real and will never be yours". An anime character, no matter how well-written, is ultimately just a drawing someone created. They don't exist beyond hiring a seiyuu to voice them (sometimes multiple seiyuu).
Vtubers are real in that at the end of the day, it's just a girl's avatar. There is a real girl on the other side of that screen, and she isn't just reading a script. And that's why it hurts knowing she's not only real, but your chances of being with her are so infinitismally small. I'm not going to say it's 0%, but it might as well be.
