Long term, saplings are some of the strongest, they just fucking take forever to get anything worth a damn skillwise, and the higher their level the lower their mobility gets so it's kind of a tradeoff.
Kronies are a weird case where they have a split in their builds, you can either just be the clock and have high mobility and magic attack but dogshit physical attack, or you can spec into the Suit branch of the skill tree and have higher attack, defense and charisma bonuses.
Hoomans' power levels are entirely dependant on whether Mumei is moomin or not.
