>>26722020She shouldn't be paying 80% income tax, but I can see one possible situation where she is, and it's absolutely fucking retarded, but it's plausible.
See, Japan and America have a tax treaty for this situation. No one should be paying more than the highest tax bracket that they fit in for their country of residence. You just file your taxes for both countries, and for the US, theoretically, you just claim Japanese Tax Credits on your US returns in the amount that you already paid Japan in taxes. That way, you "pay your taxes in both countries," but the US basically says "you paid Japan, you're good, no double taxation."
EXCEPT. EXCEPT.
If you DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT. You may just pay BOTH TAX RATES. And if you do that, well.
>US federal income tax, highest bracket: 37% if you earn more than $500,000 as a single filer>Japanese federal income tax, highest bracket: 40% if you earn more than ¥18,000,000($133,500)>40%+37%+77% income tax if filed without taking a tax creditThe math adds up, if you assume that she rounded up to 80%, for her to be fucking up her tax returns every year and not claiming a credit on one end or the other. I hate the fact that, assuming the fuckup is real, the math for that fuckup to happen makes perfect sense.
