My background as a musician was actually in the DIY anarcho/folk punk scene which I left almost a decade ago due to my circle falling heavy into drugs, along with the scene not being as cool and tolerant as they had appeared. You needed to hold certain beliefs and hate all the right things, and the deeper I got, the more extreme those expectations became.
I haven't seriously made music since, so it really helps to have other musicians around to motivate me to finally put something out again even though I know my first few releases will sound like hot bedroom ass until I can relearn everything and improve my skills.
