It was, supposedly, a specialized weapon mostly used for either bodyguard purposes in some places or special units designed to cause chaos in enemy formations (usually in the frontlines or more dangerous areas of the battlefield), allegedly pike formations but there isn't enough evidence that definitely proves they were super effective at fucking up pike formations specifically though it's plausible given the number of men wielding them+their technique plus all the chaos. Point is, it was used by some big ball bombastic motherfuckers that always expected to fucking die.
