We are the same humans who hunted mammoths, built the pyramids and crossed the Atlantic, we need what's real because it's all we have known for 99% of our history. We are not equipped to deal with the digital/vritual age and it shows.
So when I see people trying to explain why some parasocial mumbo jumbo is actually good at best I see a desperate struggle to say "let me cope", at worst I see individuals or corporations with vested interest in keeping people hooked on the placebo they sell. Kinda what happens with the whole mental illness - big pharma situation.
