Employment contracts break down all the time -where both parties cannot come to an agreement, it's best to part amicably, if not neutrally. Whatever the disagreement(s) are over both the company and Fauna have decided they aren't willing to compromise.
If it were me I'd still be trying to get them back around the table, but it appears it's already too late for that.
