Most vtubers are literally just using avatars for streaming instead of facecam, this has always been true, even back in the experimental days.
But the likes of Hololive, Idolbu and a few others others specifically were acting out roles, placing emphasis on the fact.
They have a fucking show for crying out loud.
Sure most of those personas got watered down with their own persona, but they are still roles they play that is no different to a circus performer working 200 days of the year, day in, day out.
Don't think I hate her, not at all, I have massive respect for people that can work under live circumstances while trying to maintain some level of consistent performance.
