I knew today was going to be a good one. Read through the last thread on my break and on the walk home. For today's plant related funfact it's a doozy! Did you know that many trees have the ability to sprout new shoots or roots, even if cut down? Humans across the world have applied this as a technique for forest management, known as Coppicing, with evidence of the practice in pre-history. The cycle goes that trees are cut close to their base stumps in winter, the shoots regrow out of the stumps during the following spring, and depending on the tree, the coppices are harvested after 7-20 years, which functions as a type of renewable wood/harvest, and is often desirable for many specifc crafting purposes such as pole-making, because coppices tend to grow long and strait unlike natural wood.
