Vesper and Magni were on the fence about renewing their contracts. The model updates were a concession by Cover to try to convince them to renew. Both of them had questionable models, with Magni publicly shitting on his using his personal twitter account. Magni got a 2.0 while Vesper had to get a full redesign because his original artist is presumed dead. However, they still put off renewals until their existing contracts ran out. That's when the indefinite hiatus started. Indefinite because Cover can't just say "they will be back at X time" when they had no idea when or if the two would be back at all.

Negotiations continued for a while, but in the end they could not reach an agreement. When it became clear that there was no chance of keeping them onboard, graduation was announced. Normally graduations are decided months before a contract ends. The chuuba then uses their remaining time doing collabs and a final graduation stream. None of this is possible for them because they aren't under contract anymore. They technically graduated back when the hiatus began. It's unfair to the fans, because they don't get to say goodbye. But it is ultimately the fault of the two of them for fence-sitting instead of making a decision while there was still time.

I'm sure you have made many memories with your fans and had a lot of good times this summer that might be worth mentioning in a song. Right now the cicadas are singing and I watched in an anime once that mentioned that when the cicada sing they Herald the end of the summer and the beginning of the Harvest. If you don't want to write a song about the end of the summer you could write a song about the beckoning for the beginning of the Harvest. If you need ideas for your song my advice would be to watch old gameplay footage of your stream taken during the summer you can sing about how everybody played armored Core or Baldur's Gate. You can sing about all the vtubers who made partner or made a valiant effort. You can sing about all the vtubers who got heart rate monitor things and all their hearts going Doki Doki on stream. You think about all the Chatters and how the chatters survived the scorching hot heat as they chatted away supporting you from chat.
Writing and singing could be a lot of fun I know a lot of you like to sing but I know a lot of you sing karaoke but I know a lot of you at least graduated from middle school so you should be totally capable of writing a song yourself that's an original that you can call you your own and singing that song for your live audience since you're comfortable singing karaoke songs.

In my opinion it was probably trying to leverage. They were 2 of the 3 stars with the best performance, and had just gotten upgrades. When Cover hardballed, they didn't play, and their last stream was 1 week before the 1yr period, meaning they probably went back and forth for a month on the end of the contract, before either walking away, or getting the boot by Cover for not acquiescing.

No new contract, no graduation. Sana debuted mid-August, graduated at the end of July, got to walk away with gachikoi bucks and sappy shit. Vesper and Magni quiet quit like 2 office workers who were holding up their department while management refused to pay them bonuses, or whatever.
